I think the easiest way to tell charcoals from pewters is that pewters will have plain bellies like bloodreds. I'm sure others with pewter hatchlings will chime in.

I'm pretty sure one of your charcoals in the charcoal het amel cross is an anery A.

That is one nice amel stripe though. I may have to pick one up from you at the show. A girl would be nice! The other one looks like a normal, nice and dark, too. Darn you and your stripes. :grin01:

Kathy

I kinda thought the same thing about Thor (was sold to me as a Charcoal pos. het. amel--which proved out through another breeding--however I am thinking he is actually a Anery het amel instead).

I know aren't those stripies cute...the stripes seem to kinda disappear as you go down their bodies to their tails, it is so neat.

Plus, so far everyone is now eating...yippie!

I have never seen hatchling pewters (only seen the big ones) so I was not sure how to tell if any of the charcoal het. pewter clutch were actually Pewters...cross my fingers (as Paris goes to look at everyone's bellies) :crazy02:

See you at the show.

BTW Kathy

I got 9 stripes total~~7 normal stripes, 2 Amel stripes~~I was surprised because some of the eggs didn't look all that great, but murph left me alone on this clutch.

It looks like the first charcoal is a pewter, and the second one is just a charcoal. (Bellies have the final say though. ;) )

Obviously the normals indicate either sperm retention, or one of the "charcoals" is an anery. If it's the latter, then the anery is also het charcoal and those charcoal/pewter hatchlings are het anery.

Serp and others

Thanks so much for the help with how to id pewters...that was my biggest challenge...Total count from the Charcoal het. pewter crossing~~3 charcoal het pewter, 3 pewters and 1 BLIZZARD...that was the biggest surprise so far. I have one more clutch to hatch out...due this weekend~An Amel het. Opal X Amel het. Opal crossing.

Two more questions: (1)Thor is Anery het. Amel and he was bred to a charcoal, does that make their babies NORMAL het Anery A and B (charcoal) possibly het. amel???? (2) Stripes checkered bellies or no checks???

Thats what I got from the predictor I am using (thanks marcel).

If someone knows the answer (if this isn't right that is) please let me know.

Thanks again everyone, you have all been very helpful.

1- Yep.

2- No checks.

Serp

you rock. Thanks again...none of the stripe babies that we hatched out have belly checks, but one of my adult males (not from this breeding) does have some very scattered belly checks, thanks again.
