i have had two adult corns male and female since jan 06. marjory and herbert. i notice in april she got really fat and had an obvious lump going from about 10 inches from her head all the way to her bottom. its in the shape of eggs but as i have no experiance of pregnant snakes so im not sure what to do i gave her a nest box about 3 weeks ago and seperated herbert from her. i put damp moss in and she seems to like it she shed 15 days ago and has shown no sign of laying yet . what shall i do i am worried that she will get sick if she has eggs and does not lay. what shall i do

please help

le-anne

i'd wait. have you got an incubator set up? if not, just use a plastic tub with a lid with no holes. if she doesn't lay within, say, another two weeks, then take her to the vet! she sounds as if she's ready to lay. if she stays in her nest box then everything should be alright, but if she becomes really active then either move the nest box to somewhere where it is warmer or cooler. if that doesn't work, try filling it to the top with moss. you might also want to remove her water bowl, just in case she decides to lay her eggs in there. i hope this helps, and good luck with your eggs when they come! :santa:

Well first of all, in the future don't keep two corns together if you don't want them to breed.
Second of all, you did well to put that nest box in there and I'm assuming by what you said that she is spending most of her time in it.
Now you might want to look around at some of the other threads in this forum, using the search button.
Here is a link about breeding cornsnakes in general, http://www.vmsherp.com/LCBreedingCorns.htm
You might want to get The Corn Snake Manual or another book that talks about problems with breeding corns.

don't people ask questions for us to answer them? the way i see it is that this is a forum where people come to share their experience, info etc. people like to talk to like minded people, so if everyone just pressed the search button can you imagine what a boring place this forum would be? i mean, the search button is good for finding out info, but people want to talk to other people. i'm sure you've posted questions instead of reaching for the search button! :)

Researching a little on this site was just one of the things I suggested lenore to do. I noticed she was new to this site so I was merely showing more resources on this site. I didn't mean in any way that she shouldn't ask a question like that or that she should be contained to only looking at past forums. If I came off as rude or anything, I apologize. :crazy02:

IMHO The answer is twofold:
1. In the case of thread under misc. Kisatachie corn even a newbe like me could google get correct spelling and type it into search. Sometimes doin a lttle research before one ask a questions helps all parties involved. Also it never hurts to know there is a Seach button.
2. I do appreciate all the answers I get as a newbe and the relief that there is a real voice to answer questions. Also it never hurts to know there is a Seach button.
3. oops. I see where a person asks a question on one thread about genetics and proclaims to be a "breeder" in profile, argues with anwerer and than turns around on another thread and answers as knowledgable on color morphs. Sooo; Also it never hurts to know there is a Seach button.
again IMHO susan

please dont argue

well i think i have confused u all. the reason why i had them to start with was because they we being mistreated so i had the pair off of the lady to help the snakes also i never said i didnt want them to mate as i do because the are brill colours and i think the babies will be beautiful. as for doing reaserch i have i have spent hours doing as i really want the best for them. the problem is there is so much with ever one saying different things that i wanted peoples opinions and also there experiences so i could make sure she was ok because if she died i would be heart broken and herber would miss her so much

well i hope that has cleared things up and i really didnt want any one to argue

sorry

no, it's not that you were rude or anything, it's just that the way i see it is that people expect a personal response from someone who has more experience. i was just voicing my opinion that i'd rather help someone personally rather than saying "use the search function and do it yourself". i didn't mean to make it sound as if your reply was rude, because it wasn't. what i find rude is if someone replies with the above and nothing else.i mean, wouldn't you find that rude? :)

I've never asked a question here without first doing a search. And I don't limit my research to this site either. If I find that I still can't find an answer after an exhaustive search, I might post a question. Why the heck would I wait around for replies to basic questions when they've already been answered dozens of times?

I don't think that this place would be boring if the same old basic questions weren't asked every day. Maybe the place would be slightly less active, but so what?
