i want to ask, is it okay to feed a young corn snake a small fish instead of pinkies coz ther's lack of mice here ..

I'm not even sure you could get a corn snake to take a fish... even if it was nutritionally sound.

What do you mean, a lack of mice? Can't get them in stores?

The main answer would be no. It is most likely the only fish you would have access to, to feed your corn would be goldfish. Goldfish will out right kill your snake.

Goldfish and catfish contain an enzyme called Thiaminase which will prevent the snake's body from utilizing essential nutrients, especially Vitamin B, which will cause a degenerative collapse of the central nervous system and kill the snake.

I'm not too sure about fish, so sorry. I'm sure you'll have access to micE, somewhere.

Most pet stores sell them, maybe try order online? Failing this, try a mice breeder? Alternatives to mice could be (I read); frogs, rats, chicken.

I guess any small rodent or amphibian that's not too big, check which ones for definite.

Peace.

Emily : yea exactly, here most ppl like to have parrots, dogs, cats, hamster, rabits, birds and fish. It's kind strange that some one order a snake or mic :p
I hardly ordered my corn snake and they'll get it from out side the coutry.
So, when i'm gonna get it i think i'll have some trouble feeding my corn a pinkies, May be when it'll get adult i could find adult mics, but pinkies !! it's lil bit hard to find here.

Tara: Thank u very much for this important info. coz i was planning to do this, i donno what to do right know but i think i have to figure out a solution.

Darren: Chiken is a good solution but for adult corn, i'm lookin an alternative for pinkies.
I think frogs a lizards could be posible to find. I'll try ..

And thank u all for the help :)

From what I have heard, some corns actually prefer the taste of lizard over mice. Might be a good thing to try.

Lizards are so available in the enviroment here .. I'll see what i can do..
Lol .. i think i'll have to go hunt lizards ... lol

is it hard to breed mices ?!

Breeding mice is pretty simple. Look around in the feeders area (or even post a topic).

Also, how could you have issues getting mice? I can understand the pet store not having a certain size every now and then for a few days, but if they REGULARLY or RANDOMLY have long periods where they have no pinks, you either need to buy every pink they have or order from some place online.

Somehow I doubt that RodentPro ships to Syria.

From what I've read, mice aren't hard to breed, and that might be your best bet if there's nowhere local for you to find feeders, but it would be quite a bit of work if you only have one snake. Where did you get the snake from? Maybe that person (or store) has some suggestions?

Also, I wouldn't recommend feeding your snake other reptiles (especially wild lizards) because reptiles in the wild tend to have very high parasite loads which can make your snake sick.
