can anyone help me identify what type of amel i have?

okeetee? miami? motley? something else?

i didn't take a picture of his underside, but it is a very consistant checker board of red and white, which was mostly 2 white scales, 2 red scales, 2 white scales etcetcetc...

is it possible for him to be het for various traits? i mean you can never know until you breed right?

I think yes, but there is a color called "normal" yours is not a Normal, you would just call it an amel, that's it.
 
Just an amel...

Okeetee's, Miamis etc are variants of NORMAL corns. :)

The types of amels are Reverse Okeetees (thicker white borders), Candy Canes (I believe these originally come from Miami stock), sunglows etc etc. :)
