i just bought a baby corn snake from my local pet shop and he hasnt eaten since either birth or weeks ago and i tried feeding her today and wouild eat so i thought maybe its because a lot happened today because i got a ride to get her sexed to find she is a female which is a long ride and she was moved alot so thought thats why she wont eat. can anyone clarify me or HELP me get her to eat!

When exactly did you get the baby corn snake?
You should leave it alone for a week, befor eyou try to handle it or feed it.
If you're trying to handle &/or feed it before then, you are likely stressing it out,
& making it harder for it to want to eat.

well ive got it tuesday and have held it a few times. so what should i do now, i mean i think any longer and she may die

i have no clue when her last eat was, i tried today and would really touch them, and her viv is about 80 with adjustable temps

WOW, well then follow Heather's instructions and maybe check out stickies. If you've had her since Tuesday and you took her for a car ride today she is probably totally stressed. What will you try to feed and what has she eaten in the past. You should have found out her last feed date, how often they fed... when you got her.

im gonna leave her alone tonight and hope she eats tomorrow im trying to feed her a baby pinky and they fed her once i believe and it was a baby pinky

When I got my snake they told me they had fed it 7 days prior to the day I bought her. They also told me that even though it was time to feed her again I should wait a week to let her settle in with no handling.

So I waited the week and when I offered her a pinky she wouldn't eat it. So that was 14 days with no food. I tried every few days and no luck.... I even left her overnight with the pinky and she wouldn't eat it.

By day 18 I was pretty worried so I took a push pin and sterilized it with a lighter and then jammed it into the pinky brain and squeezed out a little "brain juice". I then used my tongs and offered it to her and as soon as she got a whiff of the brain juice she snatched it and ate it. I've done it that way each week since and haven't had a problem. She might eat now without me using the push pin in the brain.... but I figure I want feeding time to be stress free for her so why not just keep doing what I know works.

NOOOOO, do not handle her
do not try to feed her
wait at least 5 days then try and research feeding techniques i.e. seperate tub, temp of pinkie...

i have heard somehing like that but i was told if i froze the pinkies which i did the get it to bleed a little so ill take that into consideration thanks im just worried lol cause ive never had a non feeder

I 100% agree with susang, do not try to feed her so soon after the last attempt or taking her to get sexed, this will only cause the snake more stress and she will continue to not eat. Wait 5 days, keep handling to an extreme minimum, and then try feeding again after doing some research online/on this forum. There are plenty of helpful threads on this site that can tell you pretty much everything you need to know.

depending on the age, they can go anywhere from quite a few weeks to a number of months. My snake (for example) just ended a "hunger strike" today after not eating for 5 weeks and he's only 6 months old or so.

OK what are you trying to feed a frozen pinkie? How many snakes have you had or do you have? I must say you seem a little scattered.
Try reading through this it will help http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28341

well i have one other corn snake thats about 2.5 years but i am better, much better on handling boas, so i kinda as you say scattered with corn snakes and do not know as much as i should unfortunatly

:( I'm so very sorry that your baby is worrying you like this. I went through a similar experience of refusal when I got Squiggle, my 2nd corn & first baby...he was about 2 months old when I got him. Even though I left him alone for the required week, he absolutely refused to eat for about 3 weeks. I finally found out that I had to warm his mouse up to 103F for him to eat it. That's what the store was doing. I really wish that they'd tell people these things. :angry01:
I recently adopted another baby & the week waiting period was sheer torture. She's just so cute & so little that all I wanted to do was feed her. She was even out cruising her tank every day, which tempted me to feed her. :nope: I'm happy to report that I waited & wasn't disappointed at all. She was more than happy to devour her first meal in my home. :D
Definately wait the 5 days that everyone is saying & then try again. Although it's difficult to wait to hold them & show them off, letting them settle into their new home is essential to their well being. :)

To everyone who has helped me through my well "freak out" moment i wish to say Thank-you. she has finally eaten her first pinky, well in the process. it took a steady hand, braining, and had to make a little blood first until she took a hold. to everyone here thank you!

:licklips: I'm glad that she ate for you. While she's digesting her mouse & you're calm, you may want to do a bit of reading about corns so that you'll know more about them, like you do about your boas. There are literally tons of posts here to take a look at.
 I always like to look back over my books so that I can pick up things that I may have missed or forgotten. Or even pick up some at the library. I just got a new tarantula & broke out my books to refresh my memory about them. ;)
