Hi everyone,

It's great to be a member of this site.I have already picked up lots of information.I got my first corn snake today,he is two months old and he is a little beauty.

However I am confused about one thing. The shop told me that I should feed him on Friday.I know it's best to feed him in a different place to the vivarium so he doesn't go for me thinking I am food another time.

Where I am confused is that I know that after eating it is not good to handle them but I would then need to put him back in his vivarium. How long would I wait until after he has eaten to put him back? Thanks in advance for your answers.

Hi and welcome to the forum :wavey:

By not handling, it means hold him for an extended period. To move him from one container to another is absolutely fine.

Hi and welcome :wavey: . I'm not sure how often to plan on feeding but you might check out the Munson Plan (use the search button) and think about 4-5 days at this age. susang

As hatchlings can be a bit panicky about being held, I tend to tip them gently out of the feeding container into their tubs.Mine are in tubs on a rack, rather than in vivs). with my older corns that are used to handling, I pick up once the feeding bulge has moved down the body and place into their tubs without any problems

Welcome! My answer to your question here is to watch the 'lump' as your hatchling eats (also, don't panic if it doesn't eat on your first try). The lump will move down and down and then stop. Depending on how vigorously it eats, this trip can be pretty quick, or it can take a few minutes (and is fun to watch!). After the lump stops, give it a couple more minutes and then you can gently scoop your new buddy up and deposit it near the entrance to one of its hides.

Thanks

Thanks so much for all your help. It's great to know there are a lot of helpful people here to help with my first snake.

I was so happy last night.I decided to feed him.I warmed the pinky up,held it with tongs and after about a minute he went for it.Wow!I was so excited because for some reason I thought he might not eat.It was wondeful to see how fast these beautiful animals can move.

If anything,he seems more lively today than before I fed him,is that usual?

Glad he ate for you! You know not to handle him for a minimum of 48 hours after he eats, right?
