Help with measuring

Once in a while when I get picks of my guys I need to get them measured again... Still haven't found my male but I did take in that snow I was talking about a while ago from the petstore I currently work at. These pics aren't meant for beauty, another day I"ll take good pics of my beautiful guys.
My female anery...

Need better pictures...

The picture needs to be as close to perfectly overhead as possible. This is a good example of why that is true:

I get 36 inches if I use the inch between 0" and 1"

I get 24 inches if I use the inch between 8" and 9"

:eek1:

This means that there are 150% as many pixels in the picture between 8 and 9 inches on the ruler are there are between 0 and 1 inches.

(It's also helpful to have a ruler through the whole picture for that reason, too. That way you can make sure it's not skewed. :))

Also, the anery picture looks "smooshed" vertically, or fisheyed, I can't tell which. And the snow picture looks stretched vertically. Since the snake is now "longer" but the ruler isn't, you're going to get garbage results from that picture, too. :(

Okie Dokie

Sorry about that, they were taken in quite a hurry I hadn't realized that the angles meant soo much.
I hope these are better, but they too were also taken in a hurry as you can see by the blurriness.

Can anybody use these new pictures?

I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out with theses guys, I've tried numerous times downloading serpwidgets program without any luck.
Thanks to anyone who takes the time to do this favor for me:)

Have you tried

Have you ever used string for measuring?

I have my girlfriend hold my snake while I take a long piece of string and place it from head to tail making sure that the string is touching the snakes body. Then I measure the part of the string that covered the snake.

If it sounds alittle  sorry... Maybe someone else can explain it better

That's how Jeff Corwin measured anacondas :)

I try to get my snake as straight as possible on my bed, and choose seams on the quilt that he fits to, and measure in between those.

I'm hesitant because the pics look very fisheyed, and I don't believe you're going to get accurate results. It's not the quality of the image, but the fact that the sides of the picture are significantly distorted. It's common to get this effect with webcams and cheap/free cameras.

BTW, what exactly is preventing you from using the program? Maybe I can find a solution.

I used my tank as a measurement. When my snake was cruising around the viv, she ended up stretched along the long side right against the glass. I marked where the end of her tail was when her nose hit the other end, and measured from that. She was just about perfectly straight.

Serpwidgets

Thanks for takein a look at those pics even though we couldn't even use them for proper measureing. My digi cam isn't even all that bad, I just haven't tooken the time to take some half decent pics of my guys. I'm not sure why I'm haveing troubles with that program, everytime I go to download it I always have set up problems when I go to open it... I will try downloading it again tonight and pm you with what pops up for me if thats ok.
Here is a pic of my brb hatchling with the same camera...

Which program? Is this the "infamous snake measuring program"? If so, where can I get it Serp?
