Help with taming?

I been handling my baby amel everyday for a few weeks up until he started shedding. I handled him again today and he was very upset. He was jumpy and he tensed up a few times. I heard that putting an old sock or t-shirt in their cage will help with taming. Is there any validity in that?

I'm not sure if that would help or not, really. I think some babies are just really jumpy and don't like a lot of handling. Maybe, the daily handling is stressing him out. Try giving it a few days and see if he acts any differently. I've also noticed that it depends on just how you get them out of the viv. I have a very very jumpy hateling who cannot stand to be handled! However, I've noticed that if I try to just scoop her up instead of "chasing" her around, then she seems to be much calmer. In other words, if she starts high-tailing it around the viv trying to get away from you, just back off for a bit. Try to catch her when she's curled up and then gently scoop her up.

As MinLynn said it can just depend on the snake. How old is this particular corn snake? They can be quite jumpy and jittery as they are young, and they calm down a lot as time passes. If the snake is only a few months old then I wouldn't worry, it's still scared of you and its smaller size makes it feel even more uncomfortable. I've never heard of the clothing option and I don't think it would really work... Just handle daily (waiting 48 hours after a feed of course) and with a little time the snake will be calmer and will tolerate handling much more. Don't worry too much about it, as long as you handle properly and make sure to handle over a table or something (in-case an unlikely fall occurs) then you should be fine. Hope this helps, and good luck.
