I'll try to keep this story brief, but hey.......it's me.

Let me tell you that there is a creek behind my backyard.

I got home from work this evening and there was a freelance news van parked near my driveway, didn't think much about it at the time so I went in to grab a bite to eat. After dinner I went outside and there was now a fire engine there. Apparently some baby ducks had fallen over the waterfall which leads to the sewer system. A fireman went down the manhole and came back up with 3 of the babies. The news guy saw it happen and estimated around 15 baby ducks went down the fall. The mother was reunited with the 3 rescues and she swam happily away.
There is a jetty behind my fence and while watching the mother duck and babies swim away, I heard a slight "peeping" sound so I went behind the fence and towards the sound. I started lifting rocks and found another lost baby. I'm hoping that "Mama" comes back tomorrow to look for the rest of her babies so I can reunite them. In the meantime, I will be sharing my room with a baby duck this evening.
What could I do?

Here's Daffy

Oh, and by the way (much to wade's chagrin) the bunny is still hanging around!

Awwwwwwwwwwwww! That little thing is way to cute! I think you may have just inherited a feathered friend Mike. Chances are that even if she does come back, the mother may not reclaim the duckling :(

AWWW! You are a wonderful human being!

If you are having that much trouble, you can send the ducky to me!!!

Way to go and rescue the little guy!

I like the little brown head. Are you going to care for it, or are you going to give it away?

Aww, Mike...you know, you're such a softie? Those are just the sweetest pics! I bet mom will come back...at least the one on Tom and Jerry alway does!

Good luck with your new feathered friend.

When I was a little kids me and my brothers would always hatch baby chicks and ducklings from the eggs my grandparents ducks and chickens laid. the one important thing you should do for the duck in the mean time is provide it with a warm spot for it like a heat lamp or a electric heat, nothing to hot but warm enough where it doesn't get to cold. They are sensitive to tempature at that size. In the wild its up to mom to keep them warm when it gets cold but when we care for them its up to us to provide that. Also just like with reptiles you should give them a choice to be warmer or cooler so they don't fry either. best of luck, ducklings are really fun.

Aww he's so cute, he's lucky you found him. I had 8 Ducks growing up and I loved them. I want to get another but I don't have a pond anymore.:(

If the mommy doesn't come back and you end up keeping him then you should get him a friend. I noticed with mine that they liked being in pairs.

I raised ducks for way too many years when I was growing up. As was stated before, You'll need to have a warm area for him and also you'll want to get some chick grower mash to feed him/her. As he grows(since I'm pretty sure mom won't be back for him) You'll be able to switch him to cracked corn and leafy greens.
He's wayyyyyy too cute. Good luck with him.

Ohhhhh soooooo cuuuute! Apologies, I have a real thing for ducks, I absolutely love them. Ducks on land - there's nothin funnier.

I hope you can reuinite this little one with his or her mummyduck. If she doesn't return then well.. ducks make great pets :) :)

I spent all night thinking about this little guy! I hope he's doing well!

I echo the sentiments here... I want to have a pet duck again. I miss my old ducks. :(
Too bad we have too many foxes here to really keep them outside. Someday I will have them again...

Let us know what happens with this baby!
