The New York Marathon takes the streets of New York City for its annual event that ESPN's Jeremy Schaap considers a "de facto holiday."
Over 50,000 runners will participate in the 2024 race across multiple divisions. The 26.2-mile race ventures through all five of New York City's boroughs on Nov. 3.

Tamirat Tola of Ethiopia and Hellen Obiri of Kenya are the reigning 2023 men's and women's winners. Both will compete in this year's marathon.

How to watch the New York City Marathon 2024

Live stream: Fubo
Fans can watch the 2024 New York City Marathon live on ESPN3 on Sunday, Nov. 3. Those without cable can tune in through Fubo, which offers a free trial to new users.
The opening ceremony, which is on Friday, Nov. 1 at 5 p.m. ET, is also on ESPN3.

Date: Sunday, Nov. 3
Time: 8 a.m. ET
The New York City Marathon begins at 8 a.m. ET on Sunday, Nov. 3. Coverage continues until 5 p.m. ET.
The opening ceremony for the race takes place on Friday, Nov. 1 at 5 p.m. ET.
New York City Marathon prize money
The total prize pool for the 2024 New York City Marathon is about $900,000. The winner of the men's and women's divisions will each earn $100,000.
New York City Marathon race route
The marathon covers all five boroughs of New York City, starting in Fort Wadsworth, Staten Island.
Runners will travel from Staten Island to Brooklyn to Queens to the Bronx and finally Manhattan. The finish line is on West 67th Street in Central Park.

Tola set the course record with a time of 2:04:58 in 2023.
