Runners will take on the city’s challenging 26.2-mile course, which winds through all five boroughs: Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Manhattan. Beginning on the Staten Island side of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, the race opens with breathtaking views before descending into Brooklyn, where miles of lively crowds await, cheering runners on with an unmatched energy. Each borough offers its own unique atmosphere and sense of community as participants make their way to the final stretch in Manhattan, racing up First Avenue and across Harlem before entering the famed Central Park finish line. As the closing race of the 2024 World Marathon Majors, the event not only holds prestige for elite athletes competing for the championship but also for amateur runners achieving personal goals or fulfilling a lifelong dream. The diverse lineup includes runners of all backgrounds, from local New Yorkers to international participants, and celebrities to first-time marathoners.

The 2024 New York City Marathon promises to capture the true spirit of endurance, unity, and resilience, as runners cross the finish line against one of the world’s most iconic cityscapes. The New York Marathon takes the streets of New York City for its annual event that ESPN's Jeremy Schaap considers a "de facto holiday."

Over 50,000 runners will participate in the 2024 race across multiple divisions. The 26.2-mile race ventures through all five of New York City's boroughs on Nov. 3.

Tamirat Tola of Ethiopia and Hellen Obiri of Kenya are the reigning 2023 men's and women's winners. Both will compete in this year's marathon.

Don't think the New York Marathon is strictly a Sunday event. There are plenty of festivities prior to Sunday's competition.
