Herpetology Class!

As part of this semester's classes, I am taking Herpetology! Along with memorizing all of the native herps in Indiana, we will also have extensive field work to accompany the class.

None of it will occur until later in the semester, but we do have close to the entire state to play in.

Alright, here is my question, for those of you who live in Indiana, or perhaps have been passing through, what have you found and where have you found it? I believe we are going to stay closer to the eastern half of the state, but we are not sure at this point. It will all depend on what kind of weather we get in late March and April.

Anywho, I'm definitely looking forward to it, and I will keep everyone posted on what we are able to find!

Cool.
the only classes I could take extra was,
drawing cubes, mac-hardware and management
I took the first two ofcourse =)

Thats awesome! I want to take a herpetology class here at Texas A&M but I don't have time with all of my other classes. I don't know Indiana very well, but if ya'll want a big trip at the end of the year head over to Illinois and go to Snake Road for the migration that happens there ;) Its about 7 hours from where I live in Iowa and my bro and I are thinking about trying to head over there for a few days and camp.

That is pretty dang awesome! I wish I had a class like that at my school. I have a total envy for you. lol, j/k. Good luck with you class!

That seems like an extremely unique class. I'm only a sophomore in high school, but science and especially biology are my career interest areas.

Good luck with your classes!!

so lucky. i dnt think we have any classes like that over here in england. im in college at the moment n the closest we can get to that is biology.

Well, it's nearing the end of the semester, and we have been out herping a few times. The majority of what was found were amphibians with one garter snake.

Anyway, here is the list that we are up to:
Spring Peeper
Spotted Salamander
Smallmouth Salamander
Eastern Newt
Jefferson Complex (hybrids)
Gray Treefrog (not sure which, it didn't vocalize)
Bullfrog
Northern Leopard Frog
Redback Salamander
Ravine Salamander
Western Chorus Frog
Common Garter Snake

I think that is the entire list. I'll look back at my notes and see. I also have a few pictures of us out in the field with the species that we caught. I'll upload them as soon as I have time.

We should be going back out once more in the warm weather to see what species of turtles and snakes we can find.
