hey, this is my 2 cornsnake (first is deceased) and he is really alert, i mean i put my hand in the cage to shift a rock and he scurried away so fast i couldn't believe it! my other snake never did that! so can you tell me a way for me to break him in a little bit, cause i have no idea on how i am going to get him used to being held!!

I'm not Rich Z but,

I think the easiest way for you to "break in" your corn and calm him/her down to is to handle him/her a few minutes each day and slowly increase the time that you handle him/her. I hope this helps.

yeah but

yeah but every time i go to touch him he squirms away so fast i can't grab him gently. even if i did try to pick him up he would probably slither right off my hand!!!!! my other snake would not even care if somebody picked him up, heck, he would just sit in his cage in the middle while the one i have now will try to bury himself or hide somewhere please, i need help!!!

Sounds like perfectly normal behavior for a jumpy corn to me.
Have you JUST gotten him? Then give him several days to settle down in his new home without bothering him.
Then start handling him for very short periods of time one or two times a day in the evening. You've gotta be firm, but don't hurt him. No other way he's gona get over his nervousness otherwise. Keep us posted & good luck

YOU COULD

try placing

one of your old t.shirts in his tank to get him used to your scent,i heard that may calm him a bit.

I have had my two corns for about five months now and they are still quit "skiddish" it's not natural for corns to be held by humans, we are huge compared to them of course they'll be skiddish, it's going to take some time for them to see that we aren't going to eat them.

I simply sugguest that you be as calm as you can while handling them, be sure that you wash your hands before handling them so that you don't have any weird smells on you that may scare them all the more, and be sure that you have warm hands since they are cold-blooded, with time they'll simmer down

thanx

well, my snake is gotton used to me now and he is really cool, but he loves to hide in places where it is VERY hard for me to get him. thanx for the help guys and gals
