thats miss missy to you
I got another corn snake. its a baby, and i was told by the store keeper not to mess with it for a month (handle it) that seems to be an awful long time...

I HATE some petstores. Not all, just some. A month is too long. Give it a week, it does need to settle in and get comfy in its new home. Then you can handle it and feed it. Do you know what kind it is? Post some pics of it.

Well i will post some pictures of this one tomorrow.. I am not sure what this one is called he toled me but i forgot. Its orange and yellow very britghly colored and has red eyes. I know it started with an A :shrugs:

Probably an amelanistic corn. Search for that in the photos forum, and let us know if that's what you've got. Remember, there's a huge amount of variation among amels, so yours may resemble some much more than others.

It sounds like an amel, or sometimes people call them albinos. They do have red eyes. I had an amel, but she got out and hasn't come back:cry: . Very pretty corns in my opinion, but a lot of people think they are boring because they are kind of common, but I say there is no boring snakes... just boring owners :grin01: . Anyway, good luck with your new baby.

Really doesn't matter one bit about handling

There is no such thing as "too much time". I actually wait 6-8 weeks before handling young snakes. :)

wow that seems like a long time to me, so you just take them out to feed them then during those 6-8 weeks?

That's correct

Young snakes tend to exhibit a fight or flight mentality. As they get to be a little bigger this tends to become less of an issue. In my experience, handling and taming are more a result of the animal's temperament than anything.

There is no right or wrong answer. The snakes don't care either way. In time you will figure out what techniques work best for you and your animals. :)

Keep in mind that Gary has a lot of other snakes to handle if he wants, too. Personally, I'd go nuts if I had to wait 6-8 weeks to handle a new snake since I only have two. I have a hard enough time waiting 6 to 8 days it seems :grin01:
