Hey All,

Had originally planned on making my first port in this section, but saw a picture that I had to comment on.

So as the title states, total snake newbie. Plan on getting a snake in the spring for two reasons (1) I'll be buying from a breeder and it gets a 'tad' cold up here in the winter for shipping (2) I'm moving in the spring so since I have to wait for it to warm up, might as well wait until I get moved into a new place anyways. So that leaves months of planning and learning, which isn't a bad thing.

Already have a name picked out, 'Toothless', and have a few viv things already in mind that I'll be getting. For example, going to do an Exo Terra either the 36x18x18 or the 36x18x24 - I'll decide when the time comes to purchase. Also like Exo Terra's snake den and rocks - snake den is pretty neat where you can attach it to the side and still go looking for your snake without disturbing em. I'm all about making tanks habitats, do the whole 3D backgrounds on the aquariums I keep as well.

Was also torn between a Ball Python and a Corn Snake for my first snake. Right now I'm pretty much decided on the Corn Snake but I do have time to look a bit more in depth into Balls. I know they take a bit more care with the humidity and what not, but time is on my side and I think I'll be pleased with either snake.

Anyways, with my snake bud I'll have quite the zoo going on - Have dogs, cats, fish (both fresh water and salt) and in the move I'll be getting a larger aquarium so I'm really excited about that as well (will at least be getting a 300 gallon tank - have/currently 180s and 150s and just want to get something larger). So yeah, I'm a fish keeper, food provider for two Labradors and pooper scooper for four cats...love animals, what can I say.

Didn't mean for this to get so long...but basically - Hi!

Hi and welcome. About the name, that's the name until you see him or her and another name fits better, lol. Having joined the bite club they are not toothless, but a paper cut is worse than the bite of a small corn. Besides it was my own fault.

I waited and studied quietly a whole year before I got my first corn. It's not easy to wait but I think you are right. This year's hatchlings will be just a little better started by next spring, and that's also good for your first snake. There are so many good breeders here. Best wishes.

Name is from 'How to Train Your Dragon'...I swear I'm an adult but I love that movie. And from my reading I no longer fear a snake bite for I have done, on multiple occasions, tried to pet the cat belly when they lay on their backs and have been scratched/bitten bloody while the cat in question thinks it's a fun game. Yeah, fun....game...
