Hi everyone!

FamilyOfExotics

Merry Meet!
I have been lurking around for a while, before deciding to create an account. Now that I actually own a snake, I figured that having an account would be a wise choice.

My boyfriend and I got our snake from a local breeder. We don't know the gender yet, as he/she is still pretty young and we wanted to give him/her time to settle in and get used to us  Later we will take her back for a quick visit and get him/her sexed. They said he/she was around 4 months old?

We are still pretty new to being snake owners, so we will likely have a lot of questions!

Meet our snake! We haven't come up with a name yet, as nothing has really jumped out at us :) The breeder said he/she was a Hypo, but didn't give anything more specific. He/she weighs only 9 grams at the moment!

Just to make things simpler, I'm going to refer to our beautiful unsexed snake as a he :p

He is doing really well! We let him settle in for a week after we got him, and fed him last Wednesday. I noticed he was going into blue when we pulled him out for his feeding, but decided to offer him his pinky anyways. He ate it like a champ! About a day and a half later I noticed some shed pieces in his viv, so we had to take him out and let him soak. He had to soak for about 40 minutes before the shed started sloughing off when we let him run through a wet washcloth. Thankfully he didn't stress out too much, and we didn't have any regurge problems! :)

I am not sure how often to feed him though, so I just posted a new thread on feeding frequency. Also, does anyone know his specific morph? Would he just be a Hypo Normal?

It sounds as though 'he' has a very good family! :)
Yes, i believe he is a hypomelanistic, they do look very similar to the 'classic' but they have a gene which takes out some of the black in his saddle borders. He will be a lovely orange/red colour when fully grown!
There are plenty of reptile experts on here which will be very helpful in your thread about feeding, im sure youll get a very good and detailed answer!

Beautiful snake. Looks a lot like my little Plissken, who is a normal. I'm totally clueless on morphs and all that genetics jazz though. Welcome to the community.

As for feeding, you'll get mixed responses. You'll hear a lot of "One pinky every 5 days", you'll hear a little "One pinky every 7 days", just a handful "One pinky every 5-7 days", and then a few people who will post the Munson plan. I feed little Plissken an appropriately sized pinky every 5 days atm. He's approximately the same age. I have no way of knowing for sure, but I've estimated him between 2.5 and 4 months.

Actually, your shedding experience sounds similar to mine too. Brought Plissken home, let him settle in for a week. Apparently he was either blue right before I got him and cleared up, or he went blue and then cleared up during the settling in phase. Either way, totally missed it. Fed him and he ate like a champ. He went AWOL for 4 days, and when he finally revealed himself he was covered in old skin. So off to soak he went, and everything was well.

Thanks! I saw some amel corns at the breeders that were really pretty as well, but when I held Faerin (I think we have decided on that as his name), he stole my heart!

He really made me nervous with his shed, I think I stared at his tail tip for 10 minutes making sure it all came off lol. He was really good about it all :bird:

Faerin is a really fun name. I could easily see it as a fitting snake name, especially once he gets bigger and slitherier. And I understand the shed anxiety, I was flippin way out worried about eyecaps until I finally found the head piece of his shed.

Gorgeous little one! I love hypos, they vary so much and their colors can change as they grow. Welcome!
