Hi folks!

Hey folks! Thought I'd pop in here and introduce myself after lurking for a bit. I'm Wesley, and currently looking to add a corn snake (or 2) to my zoo of a household. I'm a CPDT-KA, which is just a bunch of fancy letters saying I train dogs for a living. I specialize in aggression problems mostly related to fear.

I love what I do, but my soft spot is for reptiles. In addition to my dog, a Catahoula Leopard dog named Remy, myself and my partner own two bearded dragons, an orange phase normal female named Kallie and a red Italian leatherback male called Ramsay, as well as an evil housecat (Chang). I had a ball python as a teenager who now lives happily with my aunt as my first apartment didn't allow pets. I've recently gotten into corn snakes after chatting with breeders at the past few reptile expos I've attended, though I've yet to find just the right one.

We have a 20g long tank set up in my reptile room (after much pestering my partner to convert the spare bedroom into such a room) and it's patiently waiting for me to stop being picky and choose a snake. I really like the look of Miamis and bloodreds, as well as the motley patterning, but I'm still unsure of which I like more. A friend of mine has a female (Christmas? I think that's what he called it - crimson red snake with faint dark grey pattern) four month old for sale that's also very cute.

I also have a tendency to ramble. :D I'm sure I'll be posting with questions soon! This is such a great resource to have and thank you all for putting in the time to make it so!

Welcome to the forum! You will have to post pictures when you get your new baby(s). We have some of the best Miami and blood breeders on this site. ;)

Welcome, and don't be afraid to ask questions! There's a lot of great information on here from very experienced snake keepers. Even people like Kathy Love who is basically an expert on Corn Snakes pop on here sometimes and offer awesome advice. I always advise the new members to check out the chat room, too. I've met some of the most friendly, awesome, and great people in there, and it's easy to ask questions of the regulars that frequent there and get an answer right away. Good luck choosing your new snake. Congrats!

Thanks for the welcome! Will definitely post pics once I get my new snake. Trying to subtly hint at getting two, but it may end up with me sleeping on the couch. We'll see. ;)

Get one to start they are addicting. Your wife will be hooked after that. Look at me, my husband was the snake fan. He brought one home and the other 14 were ALL my fault. Now they are MY snakes and he doesn't have a say in them but, hey he got his snake. lol

Got my corn today! Was a gift from my partner, and we've named her Willow. The guy he got her from said she was about 3 months old, female, but that was all he knew. She looks kind of like a Miami (partner knew I liked the red saddles and grey background, but didn't really know much). Checkered belly. I think she might be a normal, though I do know that all Miamis are normals, but not all normals are Miamis. Here's a pic of her being held by a friend of mine. I can get a better shot if needed, just don't want to pester her too much.

Couple questions. She's due for a feeding in the next day or two, should I offer her a pinky now or wait? I'm leaving her in her tank and not bothering her to help her get acclimated. She has a hide and a water bowl, getting temps set up as I type. Also the rule of thumb is to not handle her for two days after she's eaten?

She does look normal but she is going to be a beautiful adult!

I would hold off on feeding for 5-7 days, then try to feed her. And yes no handling for at least 48 hours after eating.

My first reaction was "Whatever she is, she's pretty!" :) Will hold off on the feeding. My temps are around 73 degrees F (taken with probe on top of substrate). Should I snag one of my UTH from one of the dubia bins and stick it to one side? 73 seems a little low to me, though I am used to having beardies and even the dubias need higher temps.

Willow seems far less stressed today. She's exploring her new tank and seems to like watching us when we're in the room from the safety of her hide. Caught her drinking a little now that the temps are around 80-82 on the warmer side. Cooler side is about 76ish but tends to fluctuate with the room temps.
