Hi all. My name is Conrad. Just thought I would introduce myself. I am new to this and bought my firs corn about 1 month ago - Emma. The guy at the pet shop sexed her and apparently she is female.

Emma has had 2 meals since I got her. The third time I tried she refused it. A day or 2 later she started going milky and her eyes clouded up. I was very exited that she was starting her first shed since I have her, but I am getting woried because it has almost been 2 weeks since this started happening and she's has not eaten since and refuses to do so.

I don't know what the humidity is but am confident it is not too low since we are experiencing winter at the moment and it is raining a lot.

One thing that does concern me is I don't know if she knows were the water is. I have placed it in the corner of the tank. I have read that they will often explore the perimeter of the enclosure and thought she will definitely find it there. I have not seen her drinking from it and can't notice any decrease in the punt of water in their. I replace it with fresh water every other day.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Other than that I am glad I have come across this site. There seems to be a lot of useful info here and people seem to be willing to help out.

Welcome aboard! :wavey:

I recently signed up on the board, too, but I have been reading posts on this board for over a year. There are a lot of great people with great advice.

I've had my snakes for almost a year and I've learned that they shed when they want to. After their eyes clear from the cloudy phase, it may take several days for them to shed. 2 weeks for the whole shed cycle does not sound unusual, but there are people here who have LOTS more experience than I do.

Don't worry about your Emma not being able to find the water. My snakes have their water dishes in the center of their vivs and they have no problem finding their water. I have seen them drink numerous times. Your snake will find it. She may drink at night while you're asleep.

During the shed cycle, my snakes never come out to drink as far as I know. They just hole up in their hides and don't come out till they shed.

I don't feed my snakes during their shed cycle. Going without food for 2 weeks will not harm your snake. They can go weeks without eating.

Welcome to the forum!

Your snake should be shedding pretty soon. I find that babies usually have faster shed cycles than adults, but 2 weeks is nothing to be concerned about. If you'd like, you can place a humid hide in her enclosure (although it isn't generally necessary unless the snake has had poor sheds in the past).

Corn snakes do not drink every day. They are also usually pretty shy, so you won't often catch her drinking. As long as she has fresh water available to her, don't worry about it. She'll drink when she needs to. Usually the only time I see mine drinking is right after a meal.

My amel will drink after a meal as will my snow, the butter however will wait until he thinks I can't see him then proceed to dip his whole head under the water, come up to the other side and lay there for a few minutes. He does this several times then goes about his business... such a weirdo.

Thanks all for the advise. I have good news thought - woke up this morning and saw her shed skin. All in one piece. I am relieved and sure she is she is too and will return to her normal self.

I am sure she is starving and will regain her appetite. will try and feed her tonight and see how it goes.

Again, I appreciate the advise.

Glad to hear it, they seem to like to take their own good time to do things.
