Hello, I have been interested in keeping corn snakes for a while, but I havent bought him yet. The pets I own now are 3 goldfish, 1 guppy, 1 Betta, and 2 cory cat fish for a total of 7 fish. I now would like to add a corn snake to my pet family! Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Welcome to the hobby and this forum! #1 suggestion - check out the basic care threads here and get your setup all ready before you bring the snake home. Corn snakes are wonderfully easy, beautiful and fun to own - prepare to become addicted! I have a 9-year-old daughter who loves her corn snake - Starkist.
P.S. - I love cory cats! The way they swim around with their buddies, and those little moustaches.... :)

Hi there and welcome :D good to know you are doing some research before getting a corn. If you want to learn all about keeping corn snakes I highly recommend Kathy & Billy Love's book "Cornsnakes a Comprehensive Owners Guide" that's where I started my learning :D

Also as to what color morph you should get, I suggest you check out Ian's Vivarium this site has pictures of almost every color morph there is currently. Whichever one you absolutely love is the one you should get :D

I also check out the photo gallery part of this forum.

And feel free to look at my little collection of corns ;)

If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask. Keep us posted on what you decide to get :D

The link to IansVivarium doesnt work for me... Can corn snakes be fed anythings else than mice? Im perfectly fine feeding mice but my sis's favorite animal is the mouse... She threw a complete temper tantrum when I first told her about it.

Right now I have a 10 gal setup with a 60 watt red heat bulb, a UTH, paper towels as substrate, and a coconut hut and some rocks. Yes, I do know 10 gal is too small but Im planning to get my corn from a petsmart, and most animals there are hatchlings. I will upgrade to 20 gal by the end of the year.

Well, they can be fed baby chicks on occasion, but they don't provide all the nutrients they need. I don't know if she has any attatchment to rats, but they can also be eaten. However, they are very fatty, so they aren't the healthiest thing to be feeding your snake every week. If it is possible to use the mice anyway, you really should.

Hey and welcome to the forums!! It's a great community, with great people and a boat load of information. I'm so glad that you are doing your research prior to getting your first corn. They are the best beginner snake you can get.

For starters, name something else that eats and poops on average, once a week? ;) LOL! Seriously, they are the best beginner snake. They are a very hardy species and very forgiving. Most specimens are non aggressive and that includes wild caught ones. I should also mention the different morphs and colors they come in and for the most part, they are very reasonably priced.

If there is anything you need to know, don't hesitate to ask!

Welcome again!

If you are getting one from a pet store, your options are probably going to be normals, hypos, amels, aneries & snows. You'll probably want to look at pics of both babies & adults to see which you like best. They can change colors quite a bit from hatchling to adult. This breeder has lots of pictures of hatchling snakes & what they'll look like as adults. wwwvmsherp.com
Ian's viv has adult & hatchling pictures too. Kudos for doing your research first! Sounds like you are going to make a great reptile keeper.

Sorry, but I have just found out that my grandmother is completly terrified of snakes, and she visits often. So snakes are crossed of my list to possible pets. But they gave me an okay to get a parakeet.

That's too bad! Guess you'll have to wait a few years to get one. Is Grandma bothered by lizards or just snakes? If not & you still want a reptile instead, crested geckos are incredibly easy to care for & are fun pets. Parakeets can be a fun animal too, though. Good luck with what ever you end up with!
