Hey i recently noticed my corn snake acting very oddly. Now all he does is hide under his new found hiding spot....his bowl! I thought maybe it was too hot for him so i left the light off in his viv to allow it to cool but he remained under there. I also read a while ago that during winter months they are known to hibernate and to allow the temperature to drop as low as 50 degrees! However i dont really trust this source because it sounds REDICULUS! So can somebody PLEASE ELIGHTEN ME?

It is your decision whether you choose to hibernate or brumate. It is useful if you intend to breed the snake. If you choose to, run a search on this forum and you will find all the information you need to know.

I personally do not brumate and never have (as I have no intention of breeding), but this did not stop my snake burrowing in unusual places last winter, refusing to emerge for months. Yours, like mine then, knows what time of year it is and is probably just hiding from the elements... the ones that aren't there ;)

You can drop your temps in winter but do check how much turning the lamp off affects the temperature to keep you right :)
