Hide dimensions

Hi, I'm kinda new here, and I'll be posting up some pics of the DIY vivs (and designs, if anyone wants them) I'm building for all my babies, and I got to thinking... maybe I'll make the hides too!

So, I'm looking into doing some DIY hides and I was wondering about dimensions. I know "it should be big enough for your snake to coil in" ... but I was trying to figure out the average dimensions. SO! How big of a hide do you want for an adult (of average size) corn snake? what about a yearling?

Thoughts?

the pics of those vivs will go up as soon as they're finished, btw. I'm waiting for my back panels o come back from the artist who is doing my individualized backgrounds...

Cool! I can't wait to see them! And my corns are 3 and 4 months old so I can't help you with dimensions.

I have a classic corn that is about 42" long and I just finished making hides for him. I made them approx. 8" square, 1-1/4" opening and about 2-3" tall. The only advice I can give you other than that is if you paint, stain or varnish them, make sure to let them air dry for about a week or longer before you put them in with the snake. Learned that one the hard way!

Thanks! That is bloody perfect info!

jmichael - can you share how you did your hides? or post pics? I am wanting to make hides for an adult snake with clay backed with wire screen, not sure how that's going to work but that's what I want to do. I'd like any ideas! Thanks
