Hi,

I gave my young snake a new hide a few days ago - a full length kitchen towel roll. It immediately became her favorite and she is always in it. The problem is now that I want to hold her I can't figure out how to extract her from the tube. If I tilt it down to let her slide out she just braces her body against the side. I can hold the tube completely vertical and she won't fall out. I haven't resorted to shaking it yet, but can't figure out how to get her to come out. I guess once I get her out, I can cut the tube lengthwise with scissors to make it easier next time. Any other ideas? She's due for a feeding tonight!
 
Just gently shake her out, or put your finger in one end and she'll run out the other. I call these Snake Transport Tubes, because mine are always in them and I carry the snake to the scale in the tube, coax them out, weigh and feed.
 
I usually coax them out with a food item, if it is feeding day. Otherwise, they can stay in as long as they want.
 
You might wasnt to use a bigger tub, so the snake can't press against the walls of the tub. A thought.

Don't do that Lenny, you're going to hurt yourself.


This can be a new game for you and your snake. Get enough toilet paper to stuff in one end to completely seal it off. Take a deep breath and then as hard as you can blow into the sealed end. Have you husband, wife, or significant other try to catch the snake in a wicker basket.

Oh Lenny, such rage, such anger. Have you kept that all bottled up all this time. How awful that must have been for you. Do you feel better now?

I'm glad you hung in there till you got your shot. Perseverance, that's the key.

I had that same issue with my Corn. I like Nanci's idea of touching them and catching them at the other end. I also had that issue with my BP. She refused to move when I touched her and hissed, so I ended up having to tear the tube until I could get her out. I just replaced the tube with a new one. :)

I also would second using a toilet paper roll. I use those with all the smaller snakes, and they fit just fine. I don't know how big yours is, but if it's small enough you might try that. :)

Thanks everybody! I used a combination of Nanci's idea, which sent Stella to the very end of the tube along with a little shake to get her out the rest of the way. She didn't seem too upset because she went ahead and immediately ate her pinkie right after that. She does have several toilet paper tubes in her tank too but doesn't like those nearly as well because obviously they don't give her the same amount of security :)
