Hide size?

My boyfriend just got a 7 month old anery corn snake. (She's lovely)
Anyhow, he only has one hide in his viv, so I figured I'd test out my sculpey-clay-hide making abilities this weekend.

She's about the length of my forearm. So like, a little over a foot long. And skinnier than a dime.

How big should I make her hide?
And how big should the "door" be?

Do they prefer smaller spaces? [It doesn't matter if she outgrows it, because I'm getting a hatchling corn this summer]

Thank you!

Well, it should be about the size of, and look like a toilet paper tube.
Seriously, corns LOVE toilet paper and paper towel tubes.

Probably cereal bowl size would be fine and the opening about an inch or two. As Robbie said, toilet paper rolls are snake heaven, but if you do make a tube shape I'd make it open along the bottom so you can get the snake out if necessary

I know people have had snakes stuck in bought 'logs', so a half-log might be safer. Don't forget we'll want photos!

Mine doesn't care for a full paper towel roll, so I think a half-log would be the way to go. She likes to burrow beneath the paper towels that are the temporary bedding, so apparently tight spaces are ok.

Here's a picture!
I used a cereal bowl as a mold, but it stuck to it, so it cracked coming off. (Next time I'll know to use wax paper)
I painted it with non-toxic waterproof acrylic paint, and then washed it :)

Excellent! My corns have to make do with big cardboard tubes from a carpet shop, but that's really nice!

My corn's favorite hide is made like a bowl with a lid and a small little hole. Corns love cramped places, and getting one just small enough for them to fit tends to be good- but you will want her to have room to grow! So I'd make a hide like I mentioned above with a diameter of about 4 1/2 inches and an opening with an inch diameter.
