any ideas why for the last week and a half my 4yr old red rat snake has decided to eat very little but is out all of the time, just after a full shed apparently looking for a way out of his viv? he's very persistant and his temps/humidity are fine but refuses large food but will take pink rat pups? other than this its normal behaviour, not agressive or any change i can see ,:shrugs:it is his first shed since got him as a rescue... any ideas

Well if it is a rescue snake are you *sure* of the sex?
If it is really a boy that sounds pretty much like the common behavior of males this time of year looking for love.
As long as he's not losing weight he should be fine.

On the off chance though that it is a female and your snake is gaining weight despite not eatting anything it would be very likely that it is looking for somewhere to lay and perhaps you might want to put a lay box in for that purpose.

well as i posted before he was kept in a garage (in the dark) and has been feeding well until shedding (was under weight when we got him) i was thinking he may have thought he was in brummation but wasnt sure, u think hes looking for a lady? that was my thinking but went through all the temps and things first but he is really active more than i have seen him in the 4 months we have had him, hes a really good strike feeder but seems uninterested not other than small pink rats?? any ideas welcome:)

Well that's just in when they're looking for love they are on CONSTANT search. Nothing really out of the ordinary really. Like I said if he's not losing weight it should be fine.

thanks for the replys so much i will post some pics let you see what he's like (he is a he without probing im 90% ure!) but hes sure active !!!
