I woke up this morning to a room that was completely out of control...the thermostat for the room was set at 70 and the thermometers in the tank read just over 80 on the cool side and 90 on the hot side!!! :flames: well and i could tell since i was drenched in sweat that something was wrong. turned the heat off immediately opened a couple of windows in the room and turned on a fan lol...just got his tank down to the correct temps. i don't know why the thermostat decided to malfunction this morning but it's something I'll have to keep an eye on.

he's fine though...doesn't seem to care anyway. just moved to the cool side of his cave hide.

what kind of viv/tank/enclosure do you have your little one set up in? i know that since having my one in an acrylic viv, its been a rough time getting the temperatures in the correct range. just remember you may have to make some adjustments. for example this week im drilling some holes for more air circulation and heat release from the acrylic vivs warm side. also did your heating pad come with little rubber feet? these little variables can make a big difference. those rubber feet allow the tank/viv to sit up enough for the uth to get airflow and not stay as hot. if you have a uth but not the little rubber feet thingies, id recommend looking for some at a petstore, or places like walmart/target/etc even have little furniture pads, and rubber things for table legs, you could also use to set the enclosure on top of.

That would be pretty scary to wake up to. I am sure he will be ok. I am sure you have already done this but make sure he has fresh water big enough for him to curl up in. Just in case he still needs to cool of.

visceral, i think you missed what i was talking about lol. the room temp was up about 10 degress because the thermostat on the wall malfunctioned. nothing to do with the tank. i have no problem keep the temps in the right range as long as the room temp is correct. but to answer your questions, yes i have the little feet i got with the uth attached to the tank, its a glass 40gal breeder with a screen top and a damp towel over the cool half for increased humidity.

cmalchow, yeah i have 2 water bowls big enough for him to curl up in if he wants to do so. and yes it was very scary lol.

You're so lucky...We see heating malfunctions a couple times a year; most often with space heaters but sometimes thermostats that let the heat get too high or AC that fails.

gah! i hate space heaters! their vile evil devices that make me want to pull my hair out.

I just had my BAH1000 thermostat fail. I'm mad b/c now I have to pay to ship it back and they have to look at it and either return or send a new one. Meanwhile my snake doesn't have heat. I know it's ok for her, my house is 72-73, but she's my tiny one and I don't like it. I won't buy from them again.

im not sure but i think i maaaay have the same thermostats. is it black with the little lights at the top, and white writing, etc, from places like bigapplepetsupply, etc that carry it? ill be pretty ticked if i have to send one of mine back. the ones i have are supposed to be some of the best thermostats you can get for reptiles. and i paid about 100 bucks for the pair =\
