We're going on vacation in mid-July, for 8 days. I'm not worried about food, as we'll feed just before we leave and we'll get a friend to come in and change the water a couple of times. I'm wondering about the UTH pad and whether to unplug it. We've never had a problem with the thermostat (a Reptitemp 500), which holds a steady 83-85 but there would be no one there to keep an eye on it.

The room temp will vary between 80-85 during the day and 65-70 at night. It's not a question of survival but whether removing that constant heat source that Slithers is used to would be stressful or have other health risks.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

It shouldn't have any effect, but remember younger snakes are more prone to stress due to change than an older one. If you are having someone check in on them they can keep an eye on the thermostat too :*)

Well I guess the only concern is that, if you're feeding him right before you leave and then unplug the heat, he might not be able to properly thermoregulate.

Maybe you could feed two or three days before you leave, then most of the digesting will be done by the time you unplug it.
