i made this log during the week from a broken branch end in my back yard. there was already one hole in it, i just made it a little bigger then carved out another slot connecting to it.

i caught my baby snow corn hanging out in it yesterday (see left)
i couldn't really get a good picture.

i like it !

I hope you baked that or soaked it in some hot boiling water or something, you could have brought in some critters you dont want.

I like this idea and am thinking about doing something like it my self. anyone know how long and and at what temp to bake something like that to disinfect it?

Very nice:)

And Triple M, when I bake branches I like to do it at 300F for 30 minutes.(Might be over kill might be under kill but it works for me)

You can also put then in a deep freezer. A friend of mine uses leaves as substrate for one of his snakes. He freezes them for a minimum of 2 or three days. Usually he had a bag in there so he can change it whenever it's needed so it could be in there weeks or months. He's NEVER had any problems as far as bugs, mites, sickness, etc...

i did the same thing! we had a jacaranda tree upfront that got hit hard by a wind storm and droped many a wonderful branch apon our yard :rolleye: anyway, ive been cleaning and bakeing many ofthem, a couple i hollowed out- here is a pic of one for my snake tatsu, and another for my husbands snake star- they both love them- i coated both with a wood glue solution for easy clean, waterproofing and avoiding possible splinters ;)
