HONESTLY: Would you buy from a kid?

MikeSaw23

Never Enough!
Yes I would buy snakes from someone who is a teenager
No I would not buy snakes from someone who is a teenager

Would you buy from a kid?
Well I am just like the rest of you folks just younger.
I am fourteen years old and I would like to see people opinions on if they would buy snakes from someone younger than they are.
Answer honestly because I would really like to know what your options are.

No here as well.

And I'm sure you're going to ask why---and the answer has to do with legal contracts. If you decided 6 months down the road you didn't want to make that sale, you get the snake back. That's exactly why I don't sell to minors either.

Nothing against you the person, it's just that legally all it does/can do is create trouble.

Depending on how well they knew there stuff, there are teens on here who know A LOT about snakes, and maybe a few that breed, although i would rather buy from someone with many years of experience. I would never buy from somone who has never kept corns themself PERSONALLY.. I even asked the person i got my corn from, and she has had them since a young age.. So i knew i was getting exactly what she was selling with no lies, I know some pet shop owners will tell you anything about snakes when they haven't kept them thereself..

Well i am talking about a teenager who breeds and knows alot about corn snakes
hence myself.
I dont not know EVERYTHING about corn snakes but I know enough.
I am pretty good at buisness and everything else to get a deal done.

I don't mean to burst bubbles but I would not buy from yourself. Considering the lack of correct information on your website... Especially in the genetics section.

And no I would not buy from anyone who is not legally permited to sell corn snakes (over the age of 18). Unless of course friends and family came into the picture.

Being 'good at business' means what, exactly?

Do you not understand that since you are a minor and not a legal adult, you cannot enter into any legally binding contract.

So, if you chose to buy $1000 worth of cornsnakes from me, your parents could void that transaction and I would have to send you your $1000 back. I am not at all interested into entering into those types of transactions.

Well, I thought about it before responding

As I get older, I find that I still often speak (or type) before thinking. My first reaction to this question was "no way". However, after thinking about it, I feel differently.

Yes,I would deal with a teenager whom I knew or who was recommended to me by someone I trust. Why? Well, I deal with teenagers when I get my lawn mowed. I've used teenagers to pet sit. And like almost every parent on the planet, I've used teenagers to babysit my children. It seems to me if you can trust a teenager with the life of your child, you sure as hell can trust him/her when buying a snake.

The other point, and I can't emphasize this enough, hobbyists depend on the younger generation for their existence. If you want this hobby to flourish, you need to mentor the younger generation.

As far as the legal niceties, 90 percent of hobby sales are in the "gray" market, i.e. they happen without local retail license and without proper tax records. Besides when I have to rely upon attorneys to practice my hobby, I'll get a new hobby.

So, Mike, keep me in mind if you have an opal female you want to sell.

Sure. I would buy a snake from the teen I allowed to babysit my niece. But I would know that teen personally, and odds are, I would also know that teen's parents personally. That situation is totally different from buying from or selling to a teen on the internet.

Now, if such a teen were to set up a site and come to an agreement with his or her parents that all sales would technically be by the parents, and this teen had been in business for a couple of years and were well-liked and well-respected by the CS.com community, then yes. But I am picky about my business. There are people here I won't buy from because I don't like the way they've conducted themselves in arguments. And I haven't seen too many teens around here (there are a few, though) who've impressed me by their knowledge, forethought, and articulateness so much that I would buy a snake from them.

If I knew you and your parents fine.. I don't trust any one with my kids, nor do I trust just anyone in business eithier.. Teenager or Adult..I am a decent fellow to deal with when everything is fair and square, I have a tendency not to forgot the raws deals..

:crazy02: :wavey:

I would consider it in person, such as at a show, but DEFINITELY not in a shipped transaction.

For no other reason than the legal one. Under 18 cannot be held to a contract, so it would be too easy to get ripped off with no recourse.

I like this thread, mainly because MikeSaw is also like me. We are both teens who are breeding corns. With mine, I will first go to friends and the people in my neighborhood. I may also put an add at the local vets and pet stores. (if allowed) Then I may put an add in the newspaper, and then lastly go the the pet stores who have already offered to me.

So, I like to hear the opinions of the older people on here. Older to me is over 18. Haha.

:-offtopic Should I get a permit? Is that used more in the UK?
