Housing and how big

Considering that Cornsnakes do just fine in the wild there's no such thing as to big. Now from a standpoint of the owner, you'd have to look at what you can reasonably fit in your home and clean properly. The largest generally used is something along the lines of a 50gallon breeder tank. but a 20gallon long is usually large enough for adult cornsnakes.

Just want to jump in and ask on the same topic if you dont mind. When you say 20gal long that would mean the depth of the tank would be 12 inch. So would an 18x18x18 terrarium be suitable?

Since we're asking questions, I'll venture one as well.

I might have read something about it somewhere, but I can't recall if I did and/or where. :awcrap: So I'll just ask.

How big would a cage need to be if I were to put a divider in it and house two baby corns? I currently have a 10 gallon - L: 20.00  W: 10.00  H: 12.00 tank. Should I just get another of this size or exchange it for a large one and then use a divider or what? :shrugs:

5 gallons per corn isn't going to last you very long at all.
You might as well just pick up another 10 gallon tank if that's what you want, or just get a really large tank.
But since the minimum size for an adult corn is a 20gallon Long you would have to get at least a 40gallon breeder to house them in comfortably for the long run.

Ice44 i just have to say i love your avatair, firefly was and amazing series so sad is was only on for a little while:crying: stupid fox tv:madeuce:

ok i have a question as well. can you house two corns without anything happening? like they are healthy and you just have to take them out for feeding so no cannibalisms????????

you cannot house 2 cornsnakes together without there being a chance of cannibalism or stress induced issues(not eating, regurging, not growing etc)

The rule of thumb is, a 20 gallon long will house a adult corn all it's life. Though I find it very small and cramped for a four foot snake. I am planning on putting my corn (when he becomes a adult) into a 30 gallon long that I am buying at the next expo. It's only $30 used. Good price, aye? :) Well, ya, you get my point.

To get this one directly...

No. Like "Devilscat" pointed out, a 20 gal long vivarium is 30" long. The important measurement is floor space and I'd say primarily the length. With only an 18*18 area to crawl around your snake won't have much room to move at all.
My little bloodred is only a year old but already over 20 inches and clearly getting bored with her 20" long ten gallon viv. I've decided to upgrade her to a 40" long DIY acrylic vivarium.

I wouldn't want to see my tail in front of me everywhere I went. :)
