Housing Corns

Hi,

I am soon to be getting two new corns (male and Female) and was wondering if it is possible to house two cornsnakes in one Vivarium without causing any ill effects to there well being also i'm thinking of a male and Female of different morphs together for there entire life span. basically can 2 Corns live and thrive together in the same Vivarium.

Thank You and any resopse is appreiciated!!

Possible, but not recommended

While it is certainly possible to house multiple corns together for their lifetime, it really isn't recommended by anybody.

1. Disease transmission. If one gets sick, the other will, too.
2. Who is doing what? If you have a regurge or a "different" poo, how will you know which snake was the culprit?
3. Stress. Snakes can be stressed out by being housed together, causing poor growth and failure to thrive. Sometimes this isn't even noticable until the snakes are seperated.
4. Cannibalism. Rare, but there have been cases of snakes housed together *eating* each other, sometimes both snakes die. Also a problem if you feed in the tank together, sometimes both snakes will start eating the same mouse from different ends, winding up consuming each other.

Very important for male-female pairs housed together:
5. Early breeding. There is a high chance that pairs housed together will breed earlier than it is safe, possibly resulting in eggbinding and death for the female.

You will get mixed replys on all . But a few things to make sure of it you keep them together. Feed them seperatly!!!!!! They can accdently eat eachother I have seen pics of this and it is not pretty. So make sure you have 2 feed boxes (critter carriers work awesome for this) Some people have a temparary home for them when they eat. Keeping them in the new temp home till they poop. That way you can see what is what. Snakes can get impacted easily when they are young. If you do this then put flat paper of sorts in there so you can find the poop.
Another thing is when breeding season comes seperate them you dont want your female to get gravid very young!! She could become egg bound and that is fatel if not immeaditly treated. And most importantly make sure they are the same size to begin with!!!! No they are not like kingsnakes, but size does matter and if one is much smaller then the other it could look like lunch to the other.

Hope this all helps Enjoy your new corns :)
