hi! ive been told that my corn (female if it makes a difference)will only grow to be maximum 4 feet....then i was told on average 5-6 feet....any one know an actual estimate?!is there anything i can do to help her grow as big as possible?and do all corns grow to be the same size aproximately ? if so which one grows to be the biggest?sorry 4 all these questions..............thank you p.s how do i respond to others questions?

The average size for females is about 4 ft. long. Some get bigger, and others never get to 4 feet at all. If a corn is over 5 ft. it's probably a male, but some females do get that big. :)

others questions

Hi,
About your second question, to answer to others questions just hit the post a reply button on the bottom left side of the screen and there you go :D

(good to know at least one answer now and again ;) )

to grow your male snake as big as possible just feed him high qualtity food, also constant feeding helps a lot.
a snake will grow almost as long as he lives, so when he grows much in the first years he will probably will be bigger then a snake who grew less in the first years.
for female snakes to grow as much as possible, don't breed her,
all energy in breeding period will go to the eggs and not to her lenght.

p.s. how is my english?

Boa, your English is fine. :) But unfortunatly, feeding a snake constantly is not a good idea. Overfeeding will cause your snake to become obese. Just like with any animal, obesity is bad for the health and can shorten the lifespan. Although snakes do grow for just about their whole lives, they slow down a great deal after a certain point. As far as I know, powerfeeding while the snake is young does not cause the snake to be significantly bigger than non-powerfed snakes when they are adults. Genetics plays a huge role in the size the snakes ultimately achieve, regardless of how much they are fed. If your snake comes from two parents who never reached any longer than 3.5 - 4 feet, your snake will probably never reach 6 feet, no matter how much you feed him.

yeah

I agree with Kenalotia....the genetics are a big part of it. I have a male who was about 4 feet by his first birthday, and is far beyond that now. I suspect his parents were big buggers! On the other hand I have a female anery who didn't even reach 30 inches by first birthday. I am sure she will be a bit smaller as an adult even though both are fed on the same schedual.

what i ment with constant was to feed the snake like every week, and not 4 mice in one week and then nothing for 6 weeks.

i did not mean overfeeding. maybe my english is'nt that good!!

i hope the thread starter got it the first time or will also read this message.
the more responses he'll get the better (i also hope we do not confuse him)

and yes, every snake is an individual. i got a snake that is a year younger than the other and is much bigger.
my snakes get twice a week multiple preys per feeding until they are about 60 cm ( 2 smelly feet);)
the older ones get 1 or 2 preys a week depending on the mice in stock.

I have HEARD, but don't know if it is true, that Miami phase corns stay smaller on average and Oketees grow pretty large on average.

Wording

Hi all,
boaccman, I think a better word for what you're saying is consistent, or regular.

As for length I'd have to agree that it has a lot to do with genetics, of course I only have one snake soo...
I had heard that Miamis' are a little shorter than the norm, like 3 1/2 to 4 feet or something, but I don't know how much truth there is in that.

They sure can vary...

Mine all seem to span the gammot of sizes. The one that cracks me up the most is my juvie normal corn. She is a baby from this May's hatch and started out tiny and brown like the rest of them. She quickly started getting color and getting SIZE. She is now nice and orange and almost 30" long. I have only fed her weekly and usually smaller than I thought she needed but that's because I would sit at work and think, well, I have to feed 8 hatchlings so I will get X# of pinkies and X# of fuzzies, etc. Then I'd get home and say, Jeezo, I should've gotten Cornelia something bigger!

She's my little moose!

since we're talking about different corn morphs being different sizes. I have heard that snow (and other albinistic) corns don't generally get as large as say a normal corn.

Can anyone shed any light on that one?

hehe

Not sure if thats true or not Rainey.....my male snow was almost 40 inches by his first birthday and eating large adult mice, now his will be turning 2 years old next May, and is approaching 50 inches. His growth slowed when he hit year one but I have a feeling he will be a big big boy. And mind you, this snake was not powerfed. Until he was old enough to take fuzzies, he was fed one pinkie every five days. When he was able to take fuzzies, he was eating once per week until he started eating adult mice, at which point he was fed once per 7-10 days. :)

Bmm,

Thanks for the little bit of hope! Although Kassie (my snow motley) is a female and wont get as big as your male, I hope she gets to be 4 feet!

rainey

I also have a two and 1/2 year old female snow....she is about 47 inches. So have hope! *L*

My 2 year old Normal female is 68" (give or take a wriggle) so it is possible for them to get bigger than 4 ft, however my 2 year old Anery Male is only about 40" but they have had (prior to my getting them) very different feeding patterns the Female was fed once a week but the male was only fed every 2-3 weeks so feeding patterns may have something to do with length.

My female snow corn...

is almost 50 inches long. I have a female anery that supposedly was force fed as a baby and only weighed 105 grams and was less than 3 feet long when I adopted her in April. She was supposedly 5 years old! Anyway, she is now 332 grams and quite a bit longer than 3 feet long (I need to measure her again). She's a glutton and never misses a feeding.

I also have an adult male who is close to 50 inches as well. I do not know how old he is or how old my snow corn is.

Good luck Rainey!!! I hope Kassie gets HUGE:D

As a GENERAL rule, Miami corns are smaller than average, and Okeetees are larger than average. However, as the definition of what makes a miami or an okeetee goes more toward a simple color basis, I suspect that these generalities will fall by the wayside.

I'm not certain where this idea of males being bigger than females came from. It's true that males tend to get bigger FASTER than females (due to the breeding schedules with which females contend), but the biggest corns I have EVER seen have ALL been females. Think about it. A girl has to be pretty big to produce 30-35 eggs in a single clutch, and I have heard of some that produced closer to 45 in one clutch! That's just HUGE!!
