My first ever eggs are here! Actually, my boyfriend's snake did the laying so they aren't even mine, but he's out of town so they are mine for now!
We had actually stopped expecting to get eggs this year. At nearly two weeks after her post-mating shed the female, Rosalind, did not look heavy enough to lay and we couldn't feel eggs. We decided to leave the nest box in a while longer anyway just to be on the safe side.
Last night I went to pull her out for feeding and saw something white in the nest box!
By my best count there are 17 total, 16 in a tight clump together and 1 on its own. She had pulled them a bit away from the moss and was coiled tightly around them and I think they had dried out a little as they were somewhat dented. I moved them to the incubator last night and the dents were gone this morning when I checked. Temps are holding nicely at 80-82.
How do they look? None of them look like slugs to me but these are the first snake eggs I've ever seen in person.
Rosalind looks great, I still can't figure out how she had that many eggs in her. She doesn't have any bulges and I can't feel any eggs left inside her (but I couldn't feel any before either...). I'll be offering her a couple of fuzzies shortly. I intended to do so last night, but a migraine got the better of me and I couldn't manage it.
This clutch is intended to determine whether she's a pewter or a granite. She was sold to us as a pewter but I've been told by several people that she looked more like a granite. Dad is a blizzard.
