Just wondering how everyone euthanises their feeders... freezing, co2 chamber, dry ice, cervical dislocation? What's the best way to dispatch small numbers?

Right now I only have one male and 3 females and 9 babies..got a few weeks before the babies are grown up to the size I need, just wanting to be prepared and have what I need.

Pinkies, I just put them in the freezer
Fuzzies, Please see Pinkies
Hoppers, Forced trama to the back of the head
Weanlings, Please see Hoppers
Adults, Please see Hoppers

It all depends on what you have the stomach to do. The most humane way to do it is by Co2 IMO. The only thing I would not do is freeze mice from hopper on up because it is a cruel way to die.

so pinkies and fuzzies don't feel pain? I think Co2 would be best. Someone had a post where he made his own Co2 chamber.

I could never do what Fatman says! I'm that much of an animal lover, that would be impossible for me to do.

The reason pinks and fuzzies go into the freezer is because they are somewhat immune to the effects of CO2, which is an adaptation of being sat on by their mother for hours at a time while they are nursing. If you gas them, they just dont die (or it just takes a long time). If you put them in the freezer, since they dont have much or no fur, they expire very quickly. Its the most humane way for them to go.

I made a CO2 chamber out of a paintball canister that works great. I use that for anything above fuzzy size. If I remember correctly, it cost me about $20-25 several years ago to make. Not sure how much it would cost now. The cost is in the 'remote' which is a hose you can use to attach to a rubbermaid or other plastic container.

I could never do what Fatman says! Of course you can't, you are a girl. I'm that much of an animal lover, that would be impossible for me to do.

That is why I told her that Co2 is the most humane In My Opinion.

I didn't mean that to sound rude. But now that I see the explanation of why, it makes sense.

girl, lol!!! I actually got into the the f/t pink last night to get the juice out, blech! It was gross.

I didn't know snakes nursed?

I had my old beardie put down when his health got so bad and I guess they must gas them b/c they told me sometimes it takes a while b/c they can hold their breath. So that started the crying all over! I felt bad enough as it was, let alone knowing it was taking a long time. :(

Angela - LOL!!! I wasn't even thinking mice, DUH! that was funny.

I don't know how you guys do that. I just said on another thread that I opened my big order and was separating them out between me & Hilary and at the bottom was the adult mice. :( That is just gross. I am sure I couldn't feed anything larger b/c this is about to make me sick.

What's the difference between a bunny and a rabbit or are they exactly the same?

As far as I know they are the same thing. A lot of people think bunnies are smaller. I plan on getting a few dwarf rabbits in the future to breed for my boa.

Hey, that's rude dude! You'd better behave a little better as a newbie around here. Or are you trolling yourself? Next time I'll report a post like this from you.

I'm from Holland and just thought; hey, what's the difference between a bunny and a rabbit in the English language, so I asked.

alright alright calm down. i was just kidding around and i didnt know you were from Holland and i didn't think someone would ask a question like that unless they were trolling.

That sounds horrible! I couldn't do it, nor could I breed cute bunny rabbits to feed. Which is why I always thought I could not own a snake.
