How long to wait before feeding?

I've done a lot of research, but I just wanted some opinions on my specific case.

I have a pretty small Snow corn snake, she is only about 12-13 inches long, and isn't very wide at all. I picked her up on Thursday night, and I haven't handled her at all since then. Every night so far she has been SUPER active, exploring every inch of the tank and doing a little digging. Not very active during the day, but I know that is how snakes are supposed to be. I was wondering if I should try feeding tonight? Putting her in a separate container so she doesn't ingest substrate, and giving her a F/T pinkie. Is it too soon to do so?

I have heard that I shouldn't handle until my snake is acclimated to the new tank, and to do so after the first feeding session has ended. (48 hours after feeding)

So should I feed my snake tonight?
And
When should I handle? Could I do so tonight, or wait even longer until past the feeding?

Thanks so much,
J.BaX

I wouldn't suggest feeding him until at least 5 days after you get him, but I usually wait 7. You can do things like weigh him or give him a quick once over when you take him out to feed him. Any other handling, it's usually a good idea to wait until he has at least 2 feedings into him, but, again, I'd suggest longer, maybe 4 or more, until you do any serious amounts of handling. The most important thing for your little guy is get him eating well.

First off welcome to the forum! Great questions too btw.

Well most experts say not to feed or hold your new snake for at least 5 days after you put them in thier new tank. This is always what I have gone by. So if you got your new baby on thursday then I would wait to feed until tuesday. Then wait 48 for digestion, so you can start to handle on thursday or friday. I personally like to give hatchlings 72 hours to digest just to be sure.

Hope this helps.

Thanks sweetseraph and tinkerbeller!

I really appreciate the advice. I am going to wait until Tuesday night to feed. And to be safe, give her 3 days to digest.

And Tinkerbeller, the snake in your profile picture looks almost exactly like my new snake! Is that a snow as well?

I would leave it about the 7 day mark left alone then feed every 5 days till about 12 months old handling i handle mine after 48 hours and never had a problem

I use the munson plan as a guide and always wait until I can no longer see the lump before handling. For some that is 36 hrs, for others its 48. I also feed ALL my snakes that are under 400 grams every 7 days. My biggest is almost to 400 grams and then will be fed every 10 days.
