How long will frozen mice keep?

Dougefresh

How's your ASPEN
If I double bag the mice and freeze them how long can you keep them in the freezer before they get freezer burnt? :wavey:

Q: How long will the frozen feeder animals last in the freezer?
A: Depending on how they are stored, most frozen feeder animals can last up to a year. It is a good idea to minimize any exposure to air by ensuring they are in air tight freezer bags. While we recommend not storing feeder animals without fur for more than 4 or 6 months and feeder animals with fur for 9 to 12 months, if properly sealed containers are used and air exposure is kept to a minimum, they can be kept for much longer.

If you double bag in actual freezer bags they will easily last a year. A little freezer burn is only a cosmetic thing to us and not to snakes. If you thaw in warm water it mostly disappears.

I got the following awesome suggestion when I posted in Frozen Feeders Thread:

If you place your bags of frozen rodents in plastic containers and fill them with ice cold water (to prevent thawing) then freeze them in the water you will get better results from long term storage in the freezer. Freezers dehydrate items even if they are vacuum sealed in plastic. Only very heavy weight plastic will resist this. Home use vacuum sealers such as the Food Saver machines do not use plastic that resists drying for several months.
