i read in a thread here that you should have at least 2-3 inches of sub. i have aspen is this true? :shrugs:
 
Ya, that's a good amount. They'll be fine with significantly less though (1-1.5 inches) It mostly depends on whether or not you want him to burrow and such. Which I wouldn't see why not. So, if you want him to have the option to burrow then go ahead and put 2-3 inches in. Although I wouldn't recommend more because then it'll hard to find the little bugger :D

Sorry for double post but I forgot to say something. I personally like to put 2-3 inches in because my snake likes to burrow quite a bit. Since you use aspen like I do then it'd be good to have 2-3 inches because aspen is great for their tunnels. :-offtopic My friend used to have his snake's viv on top of a metal bar shelf thingy so he could see all the tunnels under the aspen. It looked like an ant farm! :D
