How often should I clean?

Should I be doing a thorough viv clean once a week? Once a year? I have heard everything in between. Thoughts?

Depends on how bad your snakes trash their enclosures! I have a few that I have to completely change out the bedding every week, because they like to play in their water bowls.

Most of my others are just spot clean when they poop, then a complete bedding change and disinfect every month or two. The exception to that is my adult carpet pythons; their poops are as big as a beagle's, and they get their enclosures completely cleaned after every defecation.

Definitely spot clean every time your snake defecates...
I'd say thoroughly clean out everything once or twice per month, but that's just me.

yeah I'm like captianjack!

I have also read studies saying that corns and other snakes beniffit from having their enclosures tottaly cleaned only when nessasary, and that they showed less signs of stress and nose rubbing to try and escape.. snakes use sent cues to mark out a territory in the wild and Constantly having their home torn down, compleatly disenfected and replaced essentially would be unnurving to a animal like a snake.

remember snakes, arnt like rodents and the like, I find that people tend to treat husbandry upkeep the same, since their both kept on bedding.. but snakes really are much cleaner then their warm blooded counter parts when it comes to tank husbandry.

hope this helps!

I, too, spot clean regularly (generally once a week, sometimes more often if someone drops a stinker) and do full tub scrubs every couple months, depending on how tough the snakes are on them.

I do tend to need thorough water bowl washes more often than full tub cleanings, though. I have some bowl spoilers in my crew so I have to keep a close eye on that.
