How often should I feed an undernourished adult

As some of you know I obtained a 'second hand' snake called George. The guy I got him off was only feeding him once a month and as a result he's very skinny.

At a guess he's only about 4cm round at his widest. He's around 3 years old and around 3' 8". I saw a similar aged and sized snake in our local snake shop and he must have been around 8-10cm girth.

Question is - now I've set his viv up right and he seems to be taking food eagerly, how often should I feed him to get him up to weight. Should I stick to every 10 days or should I make it 7 for a while.

Thanks as always...

I would suggest feeding him small items to begin with. Perhaps not wider than his girth and try feeding him once a week for the first few weeks. Once his system gets used to flowing again then I'd say to bring him up to a 5 day schedule and then after a couple of feeds you could start increasing the size of the prey item accordingly until it's 1½ times his girth. He should put on a fair bit of weight with this regime.

Good luck with the little guy,

Adèle
