How often should I feed her?

Molls

I just got a baby corn snake, who I'm guessing is about a month old, and the woman at the store where I got her said to just feed her a pinky mouse once a week. But when I asked someone else about corn snakes, they said to feed them about every 4 days, and gradually moving to once a week as they become adults. So what do you think? For corn snake owners/breeders that have had baby corns, how often did you feed them?
Also, about when should I switch from pinkies to fuzzies, and fuzzies to small adults, and so on?
Thanks for any help!

I don't now much about corns because I am very new here but I think about 5-6 days is a good time frame for a while until she is older and only needs one big prey item about once a week or more when full grown.

Thanks for the tips and the link!! That plan looks really good, the only problem is that I don't have a means of weighing my snake. :C I mean, we have a scale, but it's meant for weighing people - in pounds, not grams. Is there a way that I could stick to that plan, but going by the length of the snake instead of the weight?

If you don't have a scale or want to invest in one, another way of telling is by the bump. The bump should last about 2 days after feeding. If the bump is gone well before that, it's probably time to step up to the next size. The food item should not exceed 1.5 times the diameter of the thickest part of your snake.

Search the threads within the Feeding section, this question has been asked a lot. You can surf around those threads and most of the basic stuff has been answered for you. :) Congrats on your new baby!

You can get a digital scale that has Tare feature and weighs in grams at Walmart, Target, K-Mart etc. for about 20 bucks. It is worth the investment if you are going to keep snakes. Tare lets you set the scales with a deli cup on it and only measure the snakes weight.

In my care sheet for hatchlings I write that "if you can tell they ate something you need to move up a food size". I feed all mine once a week, that gives them time to digest and poop so that when I handle them I don't get pooped on, then a few days later I feed again, it's been working just fine for the year and half I've had my critters ;)

I don't know if I want to invest in a scale just yet, because I'm not sure if I'm going to be raising more snakes after this. Buuut I have also heard that snakes are like potato chips in that you can never have just one, so who knows. :p

I fed her a pinky just on Monday, and she had an obvious mouse gut then, but when I saw her today she looked normal, and the bump was all gone. I'm not sure if this means that I should maybe be feeding her a bit more, or if it's just fine?

Anywho, thanks for all your advice. :) I'll look through the Feeder's section a bit and see what I can find there.

You don't have to invest in a scale unless you want to. Feeding the baby every 4-5 days isn't bad. I would, and it's just my opinion, feed her every five days. As she starts getting bigger, then moving her to every 6-7 days. When she is an adult then once every 2-3 weeks is good. I feed my males and non breeding adult females every three weeks and they do great on the schedule.

Just make sure the feeder isn't bigger than 1.5 times the girth of her abdomen. That is around 1/3 - 1/2 way down her body. Pinks can be doubled when she gets a little older. You will be able to tell this when she is as fat around as they are.

Hope this helps?!!?!
