How often to clean viv??

Have had my corn for 3 weeks now, ans was wondering how often do I need to clean out the viv. Have read plenty of threads on "how" to clean but nothing on "how often"?
Do I totally change all substrate and disinfect all decor in tank every time?
Any help gratefully appreciated!! :wavey:

A spot cleaning should be done every couple days, or even daily. As for a total clean out, about once a month you should completely empty the tank and wash everything thouroughly.

Thanx for quick reply, as for spot cleaning, think he must be hiding his poop etc cos no sign of that. I change his water daily, obviously.

Sometimes the poo can be hard to see with a small snake. You'll be wishing for this once your snake grows and starts to eat adult mice! :sidestep:

Once a week sounds a bit much, but yeah i spot clean mine to make sure that theres nothing in it every other day.
Most people recommend one a month, which is what i do aswell, she goes into a pillowcase then into a shoebox in the warmest room in the house.
Wipe down tank, with a sterile solution, clean all furniture and change substrate.

Once you get into the routine it seems like less work , trust me :grin01:

"proper clean" as in everything out, cleaned, disinfected and new substrate?? Excuse my ignorance!! :eek1:

You got it right, Just make sure that you rinse after using a cleaning agent. It reduces the scent and any toxicity it might have to the snake.

With having two hatchling corns, their BM is hard to see in the aspen bedding. So what I am doing is keeping them on newspaper to moniter their BM and when they get older I'll switch them over.

I when I had the litter, I changed it out every two weeks. Now that I have them on newspaper, everytime I see that hte paper is in need of a change, it's done that day.

As for decor and actual glass cleaning I do that monthly.

Sorry for bring back up a dead thread... I always thought it was once a month!! But today I read that its 4-6months !!! Before you clean everything!! And this info is not from any website its from reptilia!! Any ideas?

I clean out my Cuban Tree Frog viv twice per year, roughly. Three times if it gets really gross or something goes wrong.

BUT!!!

It is set up as a naturalistic viv according to the instructions given by Phillip DeVosjoli in "The Art of Keeping Snakes." I have no issues with the tank- the soil stays fresh and earthy smelling, but I stir it every now and then.

If you are going to use litter, you have to spot clean it (I do this every day if need be) and empty and clean the viv regularly (I do once per month) to prevent the tank from looking nasty and building up bad bacteria.

I think cleaning every day and completely once a week is overkill. I will spot clean as necessary, I usually check every or every other day for poop, etc and remove it accordingly. I do clean out water bowls completely once a week. And then I do a total clean out once a month: completely change bedding; disinfect out cage, faux plants, etc w/chlorehexidine. That has worked for me for nearly 14 yrs of keeping corns.

How to clean with uth attached?

Speaking of cleaning, I need to do my once a month. But how do I thoroughly rinse the viv since I have the uth attached (stuck on) and it can't get wet? Thanks for the help, didn't mean to jump in, but it seemed like the right place:)

It's stuck on the outside right? If so then just clean out the inside and avoid getting UTH wet. Even it it gets a little wet shouldn't be a problem, just let it dry out thouroughly.
