How old are pet store hatchlings...

I know I'm probably going to get a "there are so many variables" answer, but I'll try anyway...

Can anyone give me a GENERAL idea of when hatchlings are placed in pet stores from a breeder?
I'm trying to ascertain the age of young "Lex" here. I got him right when the shipment came in, late October...Right now he is 18 inches. I know that none of that really helps, but hey, thought I'd say it anyway... I'm guessing they are about 2 months old when they send them to the pet stores? This would make him about 4 months old?

Welll...... Depends on how well they feed him. 18 inches is rather old. I belive my snake is about that long (havent measured inawhile) and Ive had him for like 7 months and i feed him well. If the pet store you bought him from didnt keep him fed well, he can be as old as 2 years (just a guess.) But if they know what they are doing - he could be as little as 5.

Im sure if you ask the pet store they would know when they got the guy in.

Is this your first corn?

Most reputable breeders won't let them go until they've eaten several times, but there are a lot of non reputable breeders out there. Also, remember that most pet stores keep their snakes on a maintenance diet, feeding just enough to keep them alive. So the snake's don't really grow all that much while in the pet store. I'd say the snake was between 5-7 months old. You could do like I did with my pet shop amel--just pick a date and declare it his hatchday.

I would suggest asking the petshop when they received it and assumed that it was at least a month old at that time. The petstore I bought our little Sunglow from actually hatched them out for someone and thanks to the shop's owner, I know the exact hatch day. She was hatched on Oct 3rd and we brought her home on Nov 19th.

They fed every Sunday and our little girl was only 10.2 inches and less than 8grams. If that give you any clues.

I asked them, they did not know. Like I said, I got the snake a few days from when they received it. So with a guess to how old it was when the pet store got it (14 inches) I can tell how old it is...
