How soon after shed should I feed?

Hi all! My new (and first ever pet snake) is so far doing great in my care. He is about 9 months old. I've had him for almost a month, he's eatten twice, and just completed his first shed in my care. It was a beautiful shed, perfect! I'm celebrating.

Here is my question: He ate 10 days ago, and I knew not to feed or handle while he was in the shedding process. How soon should I wait to feed him again after the shed is complete? I want to be sure he is over the stress of the shed. Thanks for any help you all can offer!

Linda

Hey, I usually wait for my snakes feeding day, after he sheds, to feed him. That way it gives him some time to rest from the shed. When is your snakes feeding day?

shedding isn't too stressful, some snakes get a little more picky when in blue (only one of my five refuses to eat at that time, the rest are pigs 24/7) but anytime after they shed is fine. Wait a few days, if you think snake is sensitive. If you wanted to wait two weeks, your snake would be still be fine.

Congrats on your fist snake ever!

Thanks for the advice. His feeding day is each Thursday evening after dark. It was last Thursday that I went to feed him and discovered that he was dull colored and starting to blue. So far, he has not been a picky eater. I just put him in his feeding container with a couple pinkies. We'll see what happens....

Do you guys feed at night or in the morning?

Nevermind... pinkies are gone. Guess the shed wasn't too stressful. : )

Thats good! I usually feed mine close to nightime, but i really dont think a snake cares as long as it has food to eat :licklips: I hope you do great with your little guy!

My corns are great, they eat whenever. My boa on the other hand will NOT eat if the light is on. Some snakes are pickier than others, but as long as you're not over feeding and your snake is eating, you can feed him however and whenever you want. I usually don't feed prior or after a move - like if I'm taking them to the vet or something. But that's the only caution my corns need. They are piiiiiiigs.

Yea, my little guy does not like to be watched. But turn your back and gobble gobble. He is a piggy. I so need another one! I want a Gold Dust or Carmel. My current little guy is an Okeetee. I need to take pics too. I am so happy he seems to be thriving. I was scared when I got him and am following Don Soderberg's book to the "T". Don is my snakes breeder.

it's good to hear it eat :D
Can't wait untill I get my corn ... to share with u my experience in feeding it .. yohoo

Tawfik47, when do you get your new friend? I need to get pics of mine up here. He is an Okeetee. I want a Gold Dust or Caramel too. The Miami Phase is pretty neat too. I bet I'll have them all within the year : )

Where did you get yours from?

My first corn was an normal. I got her feb. 5 09. I now have 14 corns! Out of all 14, only 1 has refused during blue.

OMG! That's awesome. I aspire to have 3! I'm lucky my husband lets me have one!

Can someone explain the nomenclature used to describe the pets people have?

Don Soderberg really is a great breeder. I got my snake from him and he is doing really good. He is a creamsicle okeetee. I havent had any problems with him eating while in blue or anything.
