How to make a sterilite tub snake proof?

Cronsnakes

Hey guys i bought a 41qt tub for my adult corn and i notice the lid seemed a little flimsy and it didn't come with locks. So i knew she could escape within minutes but i bought it anyways think some people have some good ideas to keep it locked so any suggestions on how to lock the lid?

I think I've seen folks use those little clamps to help hold those shut. I am with you on not trusting those lids! lol.
You can also put a heavy board on top.

I saw some guy on youtube who used zip ties for his boa's. And he just like unlocked them somehow it was weird but seems like a very good idea.

I have a 50 qt. Sterilite with a lid that didn't lock. I'm sure I got the idea from here, but I use large binder clips to keep the lid on. Got the binder clips at Walmart, they come in packs of four. I use six of them on the lid (and the other two for cord management and to hang my thermostat on ;))

They take a while to remove and put back on, but not as long as searching for a wayward corn snake.

When I had a smaller tub, I tried using these large clips and it bent the plastic and mad a gap between the tub and the lid. Either they were too big or too strong, maybe both. Something to keep in mind.

Great idea, i guess tape will have to do til i get some of those.

I used duct tape on mine, now that I think about it. I completely taped the one side, so the lid would flip over when I opened it. It worked well, kept my ball python in. The clips seem like a lot easier way for more long term though.

I use luggage straps for some tubs and bungee cords for others. Both options work well for me.

Ika makes it's own brand of storage tub, and they sell various sizes of lid (child saftey) locking clamps I use them to lock my lids in place. they work very well, i Have never had an escape.

Hot glue velcro strips to your tub! It works like a charm. I think in the next little while I am going to build a "fancy" sterilite tub setup as a sort of cage prototype, and when I do I will make a little tutorial with how I did everything. It may not be for awhile though, so don't hold your breath, but when I do I will try to report back here.

But anyways, I find velcro to work really well because it's cheap, it sticks really well, you can get it wet, and there is no danger to your snake.

I would hesitate to use tape, especially duct tape. I had a snake flee a tub once unexpectedly, I guess I startled her when I stuck my hand in, and I did in fact have the lid taped down on the one side. Luckily it was only green painters tape, but she did get stuck to it pretty good and lost some scales. Getting her out of that mess was....messy to say the least. Lots of olive oil and a little bit of tears (for lube, I swear) and since then I never have and never will use tape near my snakies.
