Hi there. I've been looking through the forums the past week. I got my first corn snake just last Wednesday! I'm very excited. I have his home set up and he has already eaten a pinkie. He last ate on Sunday night.

Now I haven't tried to handle him at all until tonight. Every time I put my hand in the cage he backs into one of his hiding places. I'm just curious, do you think he still needs some more time to adjust? When I adopted him from the pet shop I held him and he seemed quite friendly and active. Should I just let him be for one more feeding cycle than try again?

Thanks and I love it here!

He's a baby and scared, but if you pick him up gently by the middle of his belly and support him, he should calm down once he's in your hand. I'd limit the time you handle him to about 15 minutes a day or so, someone might have other specifics.

Congrats on your new snake (post pics one he/she has settled). Akki_neko gave you some good advice, just wanted to add, if he is twisting, striking, wait until he settles to put him down, you don't want him associating the unwanted behavior with getting set down. There's a better way to say it, but honestly I started classes today so my brain is broken.

Thanks for the replies!! I'm very excited to get started having him get used to me. I think I am going to try for pictures and handling tomorrow. Thanks for the advice so far!
