Hungry, again??

I fed my corn Monday morning, seeing as she missed her previous Wednesday's feeding due to being in shed. Today, whenever I check on her, she's moving around like a maniac! I've checked her water and everything, all are fine.

Is she hungry again?

I'm guessing you have a hatchling, so they should be fed roughly once every five days. If she last ate on Monday, today is Sunday, so yes, she'd be a little overdue a feed by that timetable. However, going a week without food won't be harmful as long as she's healthy.

Be careful with their hunting behaviour, because to us it seems that they're hungry. However, in the wild they're always hunting for food, as they never know when the next meal is coming from. It's important for us to be disciplined with offering the right-sized food at the right intervals.

It's surprisingly easy to over-feed a Corn, as they'll usually eat anything you put in front of them (unless it's too big), just as a matter of instinct. It can then take months or years to get the excess weight off them. Being overweight can lead to health problems and shorten their lives.

If you search the forum for "Munson Plan", one of our number (Dean) has posted some very useful guidelines about what size of food to offer and how often, as a Corn grows. Sticking with that will see you right over the years.

I'd be feeding a baby every five days. Mine start looking hungry about the third or fourth day. By looking hungry, they are out cruising their vivs instead of hiding, digesting.

I usually feed pinkies through hoppers on a 5 day schedule, and weanlings through large adults on a seven day schedule...
