Somehow through mystical strange magic I have finally got my POS Zoomed rheostat to stay at a constant temperature. It took me over a month of adjusting that worthless junk. If you put it on low it goes to 90+ if you put it below the low part it goes to 60. The zoomed one has these spots where once you pass the low part it clicks not letting it go lower. Well somehow I got it as close to the low as I could and waited 3 days, I had temps from 75 to 80 and no higher or lower. So feeling as if I hit the lotto I taped the hell out of the rheostat so the knob will never move ever again. All I can say is this, Zoomed UTH = without a regulator gets to 120F. Zoomed Rheostat= bad manufacturing and unreliable for a snake's temp. Basically, until I move up to a bigger cage Im stuck with these products but once I do move up I will not be buying Zoomed products anymore. Completely dissatisfied with the company.

Corncob is relaxing in 79.3 temp right now.....yay! Thanks for reading.

No one can say you aren't dedicated!! I'm happy that you got it worked out. LMSO @ the tape!! I would have done the same thing!

Thanks, I wish I had the extra money to just go buy one of those sweet Ranco's. You should see the rheostat knob I have so much electrical tape on it. :) I was just bummed after trying to do the right thing to be stuck with a cruddy product .( <---one eyed sad face.

Rocky, I hate to bring this up, after all your hard work, but what happens when the outside temp changes??? (My house varies from 64F with the furnace on- we used to let it get cooler but now the snakes are my excuse to keep it at least that- to 90F with the AC running its little heart out in the summer...) Hopefully your temps are steadier there.

Yah I already got that covered, I tested this by putting my heater next to her cage and no temp fluctuation more than a degree changed. So then the next day I opened the window and let cold air come in near the cage and again no change. I think its just Los Angeles weather that is pretty steady. Either way I feel pretty comfortable about it but I am glad you brought it up.

you guys should try and keep a steady temp in wales its hectic. my tank does change a fair bit the temps never go above 85 or lower than 74 but i am trying to sort this out. i stupidly thought that a little variation in temps would make them feel more with nature as it were>

I gotta agree

Yea, that rheostat is a pain. I keep putting mine to the point right before it clicks (when turning it off), so the temp is at minimum. We keep our apt at a temp of about 78-80 so even with the rheo on low I get temps between 84-88 degrees. I mess with it every night I get home. I can keep it between those temps but never get the dead on 85 degrees. However the 3 weeks I've been using it Raydin is adjusting well and loves to sit under the log hide over his paper towels where the uth is on the warm side. I am going to put up with it for another week and a half until I go to a reptile expo in nova on the 17th. Then I am buying a thermostat and trashing my zoomed rheo. Also getting one for my new leopard geckop setup as he needs 90 degrees constant for the hot side. Hopefully the thermostat will be better. I hear they are much more reliable. But yea I hear you on the manufacturing of that thing. But I guess if your consistent it can get the job done.

Yah you could do that Red, but I ended up going and just buying the materials, cost me 7.50 and built a rheostat. It was really easy and simple, took me about 10 minutes and I built two of them. One for my ball and one for my corn, Im still adjusting the temp and finding the sweet spot but the adjusting is way better on these. Check it out on these forums, look for how to build a rheostat for less than $7. Its worth it!
