I need any sort of fast imput on this matter. My Monitor is sick -

Taxidermy

everything under the sun.
I've been at school for two months now and just got picked up last night to come home for the weekend, i made my rounds to the animals at the house until I got to Bluto, my savannah monitor. He looks horrible. From what my father told me he was fine the day before yesterday. He's pale, bloated, lethargic and from what it looked like had puked or had diarrhea throughout the night in his cage. Were taking him to the vet this morning, but what does the diagnosis sound like to you? My father has been feeding him RAW liver which was worrying

I'm afraid I have no advice, but I would love to hear how the vet visit goes. I hope he does well for you, with corns its a good idea to keep them a little warmer to help their immune system kick in, but it really sounds like he is having different issues than infection of some kind...if he was fine two days ago.
Your doing the right thing, taking him to the vet. I hope you can update us later!
Good luck!

The vet said that there was no internal damage as far as he could tell and that he seemed fine but could still have parasites - we need to take in a stool sample for testing to see if he has any parasites in his system. Im home until sunday so im hoping he passes something before i have to go back to school. he still seems lethargic

Do you think soaking might encourage him to poop? I'm sorry he isn't feeling well- I know how much you love your lizards...

ive soaked him since last nice to help him keep hydrated. his color is back and his tongue isnt so milky looking any more. the vet said he had good color to him too - he hasnt eaten anything since the liver the other night that my father fed him so I just fed him some scrambled egg whites Not very much but something to put in his belly - so hopefully that comes out within thenext day or to and i can have him tested

i didnt really answer yer' question but yeahhh thats also why ive been soaking him so much because he has a tendency to poo in his water

It could have been the liver. I know that reptile and canine digestive tracts are very different, but I can tell you that even a small piece of liver (the size of a quarter or smaller) will create diarrhea in a canine if they've not had it before. Feeding raw I've noticed this and I have to be sure to add plenty of bone to their meals when starting it. They're used to it now though. It's possible that even a different digestive tract could be troubled by a sudden input of something as rich as liver.

Liver does have a very high iron content. I'm no lizard or reptile diet expert, but could processing it have caused some sort of overload to his kidneys?

I'll second the fact it was probably the liver - because of its function liver flesh can have all sorts of nasties in it - and its also functionally active for a long time which is why you dont eat it raw

There was a group of polar explorers got into difficulties and ended up eating their dogs - at the time it was thought that liver was ultra healthy so the guys decided to keep it back for when they ran out of normal meat from the animals

What they didnt know was that dog liver is extremely poisonous to humans and it caused them all sorts of health problems including a form of scurvy of all things (history doesnt record what the dogs thought of all this...) and other symptoms...

Its likely that the liver and the stomach fluids in your lizards stomach reacted - giving the poor animal the mother and father of all stomach aches and probably messing up blood chemistry to some degree as well - hence he was looking pretty ill and unimpressed with the whole situation...
