I think i'll need a snake vet

Jicin

Corn love
She defecated again and it still doesn't look good. She pooped inside the carton so i could take a good look at it. Theres some slime around it to. Can i bring 24 hour old poop? Anything else i might need to know? Should i bring the snake?

Also, my hamster has a big oddlooking bump near her face. It's not stored food. Looks like an abces or cancer :/ Very sad but i didn't really expected much from her. She behaved very odly from the moment i purchased her. I expected heavy imbred. I could only take her out for a little while because she could suddenly get a fit. Perhaps a good thing since i've never really attached myself to her. I will go to the vet because i did accept responsibility when i bought her, but i'm pretty sure i'll only get a death sentence. Poor thing, so young. She's not in pain right now but it's so big and suddenly appeared she'll probably be soon. I've had hamsters for years now so i pretty much know how it goes. Though i did have a hamster with a big one on his body. I did went to a vet a couple of times but to no avail. He grew old with it :) But that wasn't on his face.

Well, off to the vet. I was told to bring the snake. Great, nothing better then getting into the cold with a snake still digesting :/

How did it go?
You can buy those hand-warmer heat packs which work for a few hours that can be useful for short trips should you have to do this again.
Again, for next time, take in a fecal sample. The fresher the better. Store it in clingwrap or a plastic bag, with the air sealed out and put it in the fridge until you have to take it.

Went fine. I used something, i don't know the english term, to store some hot water in and put the traveling cage right on it.

I did have a 24 hour fecal example but i was so stupid to forget taking it. He 'squeezed' some urine out (Ah, so now i know what snake squeezing means :D) He found nothing. He said i should keep an eye on it and if it didn't get any better i should try and get a fresh sample. But he was sure they (I just brought both) didn't have something called 'flatergasten' or whatever and there was no reason for me to be worried. He also checked their general health and for kinks and such. He gave me a compliment on how healthy they looked :) I'm really relieved.
I also asked some general questions. Especially the canibalism horror story. He told me it was very rare and would only occur in case of very heavy stress. Like mice and rats and pigs ect get canibalistic when stressed. As long as i avoided stress risk were pretty much ignorable.

My hamster got a bit better news then expected. The tumor came from the inner ear and isn't treatable since it is attached to the bone. BUT she could live painlessly for a long while yet. So i'm simply happy to take her home again :) I just hope that when it ends for her it ends quickly. But i won't put her asleep as long as she's still having fun in life.

Jicin,

Glad to hear things went ok for you at the vet...nothing's more nerve wracking than a sick pet (except for a sick child)! Hope everything continues to go well!

Today i noticed the swelling on my hamster was pretty much gone, but she has a big crust there now. As far as i could check the wounds clean and covered up. I don't think tumors to that do they? Perhaps it was just an infection of some kind and Speedy isn't really waiting at hamsters heavens gate.

Jicin,

I've never heard of a tumor "crusting" before. Perhaps the hampster actually had a sebaceous cyst? It's basically a pocket into which a lot of oil from the oil glands is secreted. I'd keep an eye on it either way.

It sounds like it was a cyst or an abcess that burst. Did your vet aspirate the lump? What did he/she do to determine that it was in fact a tumor? I would call your vet and see what they have to say about it. It may need more thorough treatment, but you should at least clean it gently with warm water until the vet says something different.
