Ice Chest Incubator

In the August 2007 issue of Reptiles Mag, there was an article about an easy-to-make incubator made with an ice chest, some heat tape, a fan, etc. Has anyone used such a set-up? If so, how did/does it work? If not, what set-ups do you recommend?

BTW, my corn is just under a year old, so I have plenty of time to find him a lady friend and make an incubator.

I have used something similar for the past two seasons with 100% hatch rates. I think the CPU fan is overkill unless you are using an ice chest as big as the one they used. I have not had a problem with hot spots at all.

Here is a couple pictures of ours. It was made out of a small fridge but the premise would be the same for a freezer. All you want it for is basically is for the insulated box. I actually thought of purchasing a cooler and making one like Brent (a.k.a. Drizzt80) but got the fridge for free and decided to use it. It was very easy to build as I had it done in about and hour and 1/2. Works great and hold heat/humidity levels perfectly. Hope this helps.

:-offtopic Brent, thanks for directing him to our post as I think anyone who is making or has made one had those questions running through their brain at some point.   1/2
