Lady at work noticed this snake stuck in glue trap near the door. Took it home and used cooking spray oil to free it. It is probably 12-13 inches long, (incomplete band around neck?), checkered pattern, no striping, Lucas County in NW Ohio, habitat is wetland? Decent size field with large depression has created a small pond like environment I guess. Haven't seen it in daylight and there is a lot of cat tail, vines, and other shrubs that make it hard to see through fence. Snake has been released back to its habitat. Sorry about the quality - crappy camera.

Looks like a DeKay's Brown Snake, to me. That's just a guess. Ohio is a loong way from California...

Pics are kInda dark and I'm no expert and fairly new to snakes in general but it almost looks like a childrens python. Just a guess though.

the belly is greyish. Have to go with the Dekays as I look at more information and pics. Thanks guys. The Ohio DNR page had lg dark spots on the head and looked mores striped so I dismissed it. Nice to see something besides a garter snake.

I can't see any pattern or color on the photo - too dark. But from the description, I agree that it sounds like a little DeKay's snake. I can't really think of anything else it could be.

Another snake caught in a glue trap. I'm getting better at getting them free but this one had it rough, not sure he'll make it. We have some mid 40s coming this weekend then back to freezing temps.
